CURRENTLY IN MUĞLA, TURKEY.

On the lookout for our next Workaway from 24TH SEPT - 7TH OCT 🦃🇹🇷

We are Madeleine and Tom, a couple in our late twenties originally hailing from London. We decided to leave the city in Spring of 2024 seeking new adventures and have since confirmed our beliefs that we are happiest when surrounded by nature, being physically in touch with the outside world and spending as much free time as possible connecting to our extraordinary environment. We are also energised by sharing these new experiences with like-minded people who prefer to live simply and sustainably.

For three months last year we were living in Sopron, a beautiful medieval town on the border between Hungary and Austria. We spent our time swimming in lakes, cooking traditional Hungarian dishes, looking after Tom’s elderly grandparents, hosting friends and family, growing herbs and making jam, cycling cross-country, making music, practising yoga, drawing and painting, hiking the forest, teaching English to locals and importantly, finding time and space to breathe (and laugh!)

After our time in Central Europe we headed back to the U.K. to find work (and to secure our EU passports so we could return to the mainland...). We completed six months of winter seasonal work at a Michelin-guided Inn on the Yorkshire Moors, Northern England. We lived and worked in a deep valley surrounded by forest and farm far removed from infrastructure and convenience. We adapted quickly to our new environment and took advantage of the local pilgrim trails, foraging where we could for wild garlic and learning about the best locally sourced seasonal produce. We involved ourselves in the local community all while working full-time hospitality jobs in a remote countryside Inn.

As of Spring 2025 we have returned to Sopron, Hungary as it is now our base and have recently completed our first Workaway on an organic self-sufficient farm. We lived with a German couple who have slowly but surely created their own oasis in a small village in Western Hungary and we truly adapted to their way of life. From wood chopping, pitching hay, caring for livestock, assisting in building projects, pruning and weeding to making (delicious) food and learning about the general highs/lows of maintaining your own land. It has only further ignited our desire to keep experiencing the world and all that it has to offer, we want to learn from others and be genuinely helpful. We are looking to help with farm work, gardening and plant care, hospitality, building and maintenance, sustainable practice and caring for animals.

/. Teaching English as a foreign language to young people between the ages of 11-18.
/. Volunteered at a Meditation centre, prepared food for 150 students daily.
/. Is an avid cook and loves to be creative in the kitchen working with what ingredients are available depending on season and region.
/. Was a gallery assistant in London preparing exhibition spaces for upcoming artists.
/. Has experience working on a farm weeding vegetable gardens, picking seasonal produce, pitching hay and being a helping hand with animals…not afraid to get my hands dirty!
/. Has experience in set design and prop work on sets including painting and decorating as well as DIY.
/. Has a degree in Art History and Creative Writing, is passionate about both subjects, has a keen artistic eye and loves to be involved in creative projects.
/. Has hospitality, housekeeping and reception experience in a Michelin-guided countryside Hotel.
/. Has hospitality experience in a busy London Michelin-guided restaurant as a waitress, bartender and barista.
/. Enjoys spending time with others connecting, sharing, learning and growing.

Tom…
/. Has almost a decade's worth of experience playing live music with various bands, writing and recording his own musical projects.
/. Has experience teaching English as a foreign language in Hungary, as well as secondary translation, proofreading and copyediting experience.
/. Has experience in painting and decorating, landscaping, general maintenance and H&S compliance.
/. Has farming experience, has helped with building projects, animal-care and wood chopping, is not afraid of physically demanding tasks.
/. Loves cooking for others.
/. Has worked as a Visitor Assistant in popular museums such as The British Museum and Imperial War Museum.
/. Has years of experience as an Assistant Manager in busy Pubs/Hotels in London.
/. Has experience in childcare through lifeguarding and babysitting, and can care for domestic animals.

Was noch ...

In London we enjoyed going to gallery openings, gigs with friends and swimming in Hampstead ponds. Now, swimming in lakes, making music, experiencing the natural world and getting to know new people from different walks of life are some of our favourite past times. That and eating large quantities of lecsó!
