Hello!

My name is Aimée and I am 18 years old. I am originally Dutch but I live in the beautiful Brittany France, together with my parents and brother since I am 5 years old.

What makes me happy and motivates me? Well that's not hard to answer, surfing, the sea, plants, longboard dancing (dancing on a skateboard) and painting.

I have just finished the French high school (Lycée Général) of which the last two and half years i have been homeschooling. I took that decision because I was loosing myself in my school work and hadn’t any time left to do sports and be outside. It worked out great for me, I could arrange my schoolwork around surf sessions, and I still had a lot of time to do many things; what a luxury, right?! Socially it was hard sometimes but I managed to keep contact with my friends from school.

This year, having passed my exams (BAC) I am taking a gap year to take a break from school and the books before starting a horticulture study, but most importantly to discover new things, meet new people and learn many new skills.
My gap year will start in September with a cycling trip from Brittany to Biarritz on the South West coast of France. A journey of 1000km and I will take a month to get down there with my bike, tent and surf board.

What are my skills?
To start with, I am hard worker I am not scared to get my hands dirty! I already have some experience with workaway especially since we have had many workawayers at home as a host. My parents have completely renovated three buildings with natural materials see our workaway page “Sustainable maintenance of old farmhouse buildings (straw, stone & wood) and permaculture gardening in Brittany, France”. I always loved it, the workawayers that stayed with us were like a big brother or sister to me, and I have always been around the workplace helping with cleaning, sanding and painting. Two of three buildings have now become holiday cottages and we have created a sort of mini camping with, in the summer, a lot of kids and all kind of different people around. I am always helping in the family business by cleaning, babysitting, welcoming the new guests, entertaining the children, working in our (vegetable) garden, cooking for guests, etc...
I think I am an open minded person, easy going and sociable, with a creative and practical mind.

Was noch ...

During a 2 month travel to Sri Lanka with the family we have volunteerd at an old tea plantation in the middle of the jungle that have taught me a lot about local culture and environment.
