Hi there!

I am Lina, from Vienna, Austria :)
I am a very open-minded and easy-going person, who's always looking for new challenges and experiences. I am creative and curious and usually pretty grounded. I love crossing paths with inspiring people, to share ideas, to learn from and to grow with along the way.

I was able to travel around quite a bit over the last couple of years and just found that I have to get out and about to explore what the world has in store. It has definitely been the most rewarding and challenging thing - it keeps me on my toes and gives me a chance to reflect and heighten my awareness toward so many beautiful things and people in life.

I am currently studying at the University of Vienna to finish my masters degree in contemporary history and media. While that keeps my brain occupied, my heart is really flourishing when I'm able to be in nature and around animals, there is not much that can beat that. :)
I enjoy being a part of something bigger, meaningful, to support each other, to listen, connect and learn from one another.

I am reliable, always give the best of my abilities and love hands-on work. I try to see the good in everything and everyone, I am motivated and eager to learn. I like being on the move and having a new and different day to day, especially loving when it involves nature, the ocean and animals. I am very open minded, social and love working together as a team, but I am also good at being on my own and usually find something to keep me occupied.

I have experience in the media field, mostly in film and photography (usually somewhat in and around live music), some gardening and lots of cooking experience that I'd gladly share with you.
Always loved being around and working with animals - that's why my first workaway experience was in Norway, working with 77 sledge dogs/ Alaskan Huskies - my second workaway was in Spain working in the natural horsemanship team for almost 9 months. I'd love to get back into horse work!

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help on our ecological farm ...)

well I thought sitting down to write about this beautiful place was gonna be easy, but turns out I am still trying to find the right words. let's start with this:
for me it was clear coming here that I wanted to be involved in the horse world here, so I applied to be a part of the stable team, more particularly I joined as a volunteer for the… read more natural horsemanship training that is lead by the incredibly kind, funny and skilled Seamus and his lovely apprentice Pauline. I had ridden as a kid and teenager, but I didn't have any experience when it came to ground work or actual horsemanship training - so I feel unbelievably lucky to have gotten the opportunity to emerge myself into their world and dive deep into the realm of dancing with horses, so to speak.
The days would start with cleaning the paddocks and depending on the weather and staff, sometimes maintaining the stables as well. Getting the horses in from the campo - helping the vet - sometimes there are training sessions, depending on who is there and who needs to be worked. Breakfast with the team, which all of them are so kind and welcoming and funny, but gotta stay real - Jorge will always be my number one - he'll make you feel right at home!

The natural horsemanship team is responsible for the education of the 0-4 year olds (mas o menos), so after breakfast you will start working with whoever needs to be worked, trained, or needs special attention due to a problem or injury. Lately the new foals have taken up most of our attention. Seamus and Pauline will guide you through it - be patient, watch, listen, observe and learn. Use your common sense, be efficient, care about your and the rest of the teammembers, see what needs to be done and be gentle with the horses. Don't be shy to ask questions, it's so important and everyone is super open to explain things if you are interested to learn more or go deeper.
Listen to your feeling, it'll guide you through it and most of all, give yourself some time. Remember you are working with other beings that have a gentle nature, so be gentle too. :)
work would end between 2-4pm, depending on what is going on and how long you want to stay. (I do not know if working in this team is still possible as the volunteering program has changed when I left)

As a volunteer you live in "el nido". It's a space that is shared between workers from the finca/cortijo and volunteers. There are several rooms, a shared kitchen, bathroom, laundry room,... on average I think there were about 8-15 people living there at the same time, so be aware that if you know you need time to yourself, you need to find that. There is a whole mountain to roam if you feel like the walls are caving in on you.
When I lived there el nido became not only my home, but also my family - I believe that can be true for anyone, if you show up for the community, do your part in keeping things clean and organized and allow yourself to open up and bond with people. read the room.
Maria is the head of the nido, she will make sure everyone has everything they need, and even though people keep coming and going and the group is constantly rotating, she will make you feel like you belong right here and there. She is an incredible hard worker and gives her heart and soul to this place - thank you lovely, for you and for trying your hardest to make this place a home for not only yourself, but everyone passing by and through.
Yanin, la cocinera es el corazon del nido. She will make sure everyone has food for when they get home and despite the hustle and bustle during lunch hours, she will keep a calm mind and ask everyone how they are doing.
God..there is so much to say about all the lovely and loving people in this place, but I think I will try and stop myself here and go back to the facts.
Thursdays are cleaning days, so everyone takes part in keeping the shared spaces organized and clean after lunch.
For me, working in the stables, my schedule was set from Monday-Friday, weekends were off, but general volunteers are taking care of the paddocks on Saturday and Sunday, so they are in a kind of paddock rotation.

On another note, you'll have cats around everywhere, which for me was a big plus! :)
You can use the kitchen/living room to screen movies or play piano/ cook/...there is a yoga deck and a platform outside that you can use for sports or, anything honestly, if the weather lets you. I'd recommend to roam the finca and explore all the hidden gems..there are many that will unfold over time.

This place is magic, if you are able to see it.
It is community and melting into nature, it has the best sunsets and full moons. people are coming together from all walks of life. endless scenery and mountain climbing.
experiencing and living with the animals and the people in this place was truly magical. el nido has become home and the people in it became family
