Hello fellow workawayers and hosts!
My name is Kateřina, I´m turning 27 this autumn and I come from a small border town in the Czech republic.
After I finished my university studies two years ago and I finally moved out of the birdnest, I have been living and working up in the Arctic, switching between winter season in Finnish Rovaniemi and summer season in Norwegian Saltfjellet, travelling around the whole of Scandinavia in between the working seasons. I absolutely love the slow lifestyle in connection with the nature up in the north.
I have always loved travelling and my favourite way is to combine seeing beautiful places together with meeting local people and perhaps making new friends. I have travelled a lot around by hitchhiking and have used Couchsurfing quite a bit, which gave me the chance to meet many different people and enriched me a lot.
I have heard a lot about Workaway from my friends (and only positive words!), though never really had a chance to try it myself. However, I decided to join and try now, as I found myself at a crossroads in life, feeling like I need to take a break for a bit and reset my mind, try something new, whilst helping the others. I’d be happy to learn as many new things and skills as possible!
My idea of a Workaway is to become a part of a family/become a friend rather than coming to a workplace. Of course I’m happy to help out with everything what’s needed, but I would also like to spend time with the host and experience their lifestyle. As I´m seriously considering settling down in Norway permanently, I would like to get another experience of the local lifestyle, additionally to what I already know.

I´m fluent in English and it has been my main language for communicating in the last years, however I´m not a native speaker and I´m also still learning, so I absolutely understand if you´re not super fluent or make mistakes, I make them too. I’m on my way of learning Norwegian and even though I’m very much at the beginning, I would be happy to learn as much as I can! If you’re interested, I can teach you some Czech phrases you can flex with and maybe I can dig out my high school French.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

About my skills - honestly I don´t consider myself being the most handy person when it comes to building and fixing things, simply because I never really got to do much of this. This can sometimes be a bit frustrating so I would love to learn how to work with some tools, maybe some simple carpentry work, fixing things and just help with some DIY projects of any kind.
I can help with gardening as my parents have a garden where they grow basically a bit of everything when it comes to fruits and vegetables. I have always enjoyed working there and it is a place where I grew up and spent most of the summers in my life. I can help with taking care of the plants, harvesting, getting rid of the weed, lawn mowing, cutting grass and weed, raking of the leaves etc.
I really enjoy painting (have painted few cabins last summer and it was a blast, so relaxing) so I´m ready to paint your house, fence or an old barn.
I don´t have any experience working on a farm or with animals, however I like to be around animals and I would love to try how is it to live on a farm and learn some farmwork.
On the other hand, I love cooking and baking and will be more than happy to take over this part. I like to keep things clean and tidy, so general cleaning around the house is also not a problem for me.
I’m also a big fan of berry picking and I will be happy to learn more about processing and preserving food for winter.
I naturally like being around kids and I have been working as an activity instructor and a supervisor at children’s summer camps for ten years in a row, daily taking care of kids aged 6-15 years old.
Additionally, I consider myself being curious and fast learner and one of the reasons I joined Workaway is also to try and learn new skills when it comes to helping around the house/farmwork or DIY projects, so if you show me what to do, I can become a great helper and worker.

Was noch ...

I’m a big nature lover and just love spending time outdoors, so would be more than happy to have some company for hiking, camping, skiing or biking.
I also like to just chill with a good movie or play board games (have you heard of Hanabi?!). I can teach you chess and after three rounds you can surely already beat me.
I would really like to get into fishing, so if you like fishing, you can count on me as your assistant!
