Heyy! My name is Karlijn and I just joined workaway :) I'm graduating from uni soon (with a focus on international human rights law and international organizations) and I'm going to take a break from studying the next year (or two...). I'm Dutch but I grew up in Canada, the US, and Hong Kong - I'm clearly a bit restless and excited to move around and meet new people again! I speak English, Dutch and some Spanish. I love being near the beach and spending lots of time outdoors. I've also spent quite a bit of time working in restaurants and as a bartender as well as managing HR of a student bar so I can make you a nice espresso martini :)

I'd love to help out at NGOs and surf camps in particular. I spent three months on a research exchange in Aruba, then was a volunteer at Algarve Surf Camp in Portugal for the summer of 2022, and have now been working as a barista and waitress in the US for a few months. I'm ready to get traveling again!

I have been learning Spanish for many years but I'm still quite insecure about speaking it, so I'd love to work on that! I'm also just generally interested in learning languages, so wherever I go I will probably try to learn some of the language. As far as teaching, I have quite a bit of experience tutoring English mostly to kids.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I have experience volunteering at quite a few NGOs working with children, refugees, and more. I also have worked in restaurants as a waitress as well as cleaner, as a bartender, and as a cleaner at my football club. I also have some experience with PR work and language learning and teaching. I'm very organized, always on time, and pick up a new skill quickly!

Was noch ...

I have played football (soccer) and tennis all my life and recently picked up a passion for beach tennis! I used to wakeboard every weekend with my family and I also have sporadically throughout my life surfed a bit and that's definitely something I want to do more of. Besides that, I enjoy hiking, reading, and a drink on the beach :)
