Hi, I’m Karina! I’m originally from Riga, Latvia, grew up in Canada, and have spent the last decade living in South Korea and then in Prague for 8 years. Now I live anywhere my curiosity takes me :)

I’ve worked in all kinds of environments: from movie theatres, restaurants, and doggy daycares to museums, classrooms, and now as a life coach. Thanks to that, I’m adaptable, responsible, and pretty comfortable jumping into new roles and helping wherever I’m needed.

I love travel, nature, and getting to know places beyond the surface. I studied history and have a soft spot for culture, anthropology, and archaeology, but lately psychology and neuroscience have stolen my heart. I’m definitely a multi-passionate human. I can happily spend a day hiking or kayaking… or curled up with a book and a movie. I enjoy meeting new people just as much as I enjoy a bit of solo time.

I’m currently travelling and working remotely while figuring out my next chapter, and Workaway feels like the perfect way to connect with great people, learn new things, and contribute in meaningful ways.

I have been an English language teacher for 10+ years. I have worked with kids ages 8-13, with teens, and with adults. I have done group courses and individual lessons. I have done specialized English courses and test preparations. I've worked in summer camps and winter camps. I have also taught soft skills in English like presentations and negotiations.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I'm an English language teacher.
I'm also fluent in Russian, and I can speak basic Spanish, which I am regularly studying and practicing.
I have worked in hospitality and customer service for almost 10 years, starting in a movie theatre, then moving to restaurants, bars, and events.
I was an elementary school teacher in South Korea, and a soft skills trainer in Prague.
All my work has been connected to people.
I have also worked in a doggy daycare and have been a dog-sitter for all my friends.
During the pandemic, I got really into gardening (on my balcony, but I did grow some yummy cherry tomatoes!).
I love outdoor activities in forests, mountains and on water.
I'm a daughter and an only child so my dad taught me how to fix a lot of things on my own.
Planning and organizing are my specialties, whether it's an itinerary, a project, or a room.
Some of my past colleagues would say I'm an obsessive cleaner (I'm not Monica Geller level, but I definitely can't leave a mess unsorted).
I love working with people, and I also enjoy working alone :)
