    Hello!
Call me Jo or call me Asia (asha)- there are more Polish diminutives to choose from, if neither of those lands. I'm a Polish and American dual citizen, looking to learn from communities around the world that value a relationship with the land and with one another.

I am a deep thinker who tries to create the world I want to live in. This is a balance of working around the existing [broken] systems to provide mutual aid (clothing swaps, meal trains, cooperative farming) and living and loving exuberantly. Find me dancing, doing anything outdoors, cooking, reading and connecting meaningfully to share a vision of the world we are working towards.

I am a communication therapist (SLP) and a massage therapist to boot - listening is my superpower. Tell me your stories?

  • Was könntest du arbeiten?

Beyond what I do to earn coin, I've been learning about silviopasture from local friends. I farm cooperatively (mainly storage crops, like potatoes, alliums, popcorn, etc. for the cold New England winters) on an apple orchard. I've planted hundreds of trees on a steep slope, harvested chestnuts, and made friends with the protective sheepdogs protecting the lambs and chickens that graze under the trees. There's always so much more to learn!

Beyond agriculture, I tend to be a community organizer in a few capacities. As mentioned, I run clothing swap & mends to teach fabric repair. I really love to prepare food with people and do so as often as I can. Currently, I am working on setting up a series of story exchanges in the community - a new project that I'm hoping will foster connections on a deeper level.

  • Was noch ...

During the working year - September to June for me - I spend most of my time with 3-10-year-olds. Ostensibly, I teach them strategies for communication, but I find that I learn new ways to play, move, joke and understand one another from them. These kids are in a rural school in the Massachusetts hills and it rocks their world to know that people speak languages other than English- I happen to be the only multilingual person they know. At the end of the day, it feels like we've had a fair skill exchange.

What else? I play basketball (not very well) and help organize a queer basketball pick-up game series and league. I've captained teams before and am known for the "good vibes, emotional support and treats" that I bring to the role rather than any game-play strategy. I like trying new sports as an adult and have played in softball and kickball leagues recently. I've been a runner, a backpacker and a cyclist, though I try to be more moderate about it these days. I love to camp at elevation and make time to be alone in the mountains as often as life allows for it.

My family is exclusively Polish immigrants, who taught me much of what I know when it comes to "DIY" and gardening. Most of my family lives in Poland and I grew up helping on my grandparent's farm - mainly with haying and caring for the chickens and ducks. I've tried to dig up literature on Slavic culture pre-Christianity and haven't had much luck- this is something I'd love to learn more about if you have any leads!
