Hi there! My name is Ilaria, and this is my first time using Workaway! I'm a high school teacher from Canada currently taking a year off to travel, explore new places, and try something a bit different. I usually teach dance, drama, and photography, but over the years I’ve also taught subjects like social studies, English, and math. I love being creative and working with people, even if I tend to be on the quieter, more introverted side when you first meet me.

Outside of school, I run a small dance business where I teach classes, and I also do residential painting—both interior and exterior—as a bit of a side hustle. I enjoy hands-on work and don’t mind getting a little messy! I have an education degree, an arts degree in sociology, and a masters of education in technology and design. Essentially, I love to learn, and am very interested in learning about people and the world! Back at home I have two cats, Nitro & Rosie. I am as they would say it "a cat lady", and so I will be missing my cats very much. I have a soft spot in my heart for animals in general, and so I would be so happy to find a workaway that had some pets!

In my spare time, I’m happiest outdoors—whether that’s going for long walks, taking photos, practicing yoga, or just exploring new neighborhoods and trails. I’m really excited about the chance to meet new people, learn new skills, and experience different ways of life through Workaway.

I would love to help you with some renovations including painting/ staining/ design, anything to do with photography or marketing of your business or passion project, farming/ outdoor work (planting, harvesting, grass cutting, etc.), taking care of your animals, around the house with cleaning, spending time with you to learn about your culture and share about mine, and more! I am open to experiences, but I will also communicate if I am not comfortable with something!

I love getting out to do things, but the balance is that I also enjoy finding a quiet place to read or listen to a podcast/ audiobook. I enjoy playing card games/ board games, or finding fun activities to do!
