I'm currently living in Riga, Latvia.

My passions are everything nature—travelling to new and adventurous places, hiking through the woods during days and nights, taking long swims, and appreciating everything around us. Even though I like the city and have lived in it my whole life, whenever I can, I try to escape it and get the fresh air from the spacious beauty of nature.

I am eager to learn more about how people live across the globe and am happy to share some of my adventures as well. I love meeting new people and learning their perspectives on life. I think we can learn so much from each other and our experiences.

So far, I have been to Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Nepal, Norway, Denmark, Kenya, Greece, and other countries.

From career perspective....
My field of profession is communication and marketing, as well as sponsorship and sustainability. My main work up until now has been societal engagement projects with focus on education and environment. Therefore, I can help with promoting your brand and make it more visible to other people.
From academic perspective...
I have bachelor in Business administration and I am in process of my Masters in Social Anthropology (in depth research about cultures around the globe).
I am open minded, positive and enthusiastic. I love spending time outdoors and meet new people.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Come to help out on our ...)

Spending several weeks on the island really gave perspective on how little we actually need to feel good and safe. It also made me appreciate the life I have even more. During my visit there was not much work and it wasn't really expected from me to work, most of the time I did what I came up to, like collecting the trash from the family's… read more backyard, going to the lake, assisting in cooking.

If you are the same as me and WANT to work, and if you do come during maize off season, I suggest to do the same - look for the work yourself. I randomly met a local farmer who was innovating new farming ideas every day and every evening we would go to his farm and test these ideas he had seen on youtube, like re-using banana trees for planting vegetables etc. It was so much fun and of course, I learned a lot about local culture, education system etc. This also made me wonder - why did I meet people who are so into innovation and some that are not (while still wanting more food to be available in the farm)? The closest answer for me was the access to information and the fact that many people who live on the island are simply lacking it (you can find internet coverage mainly on hill-tops and lakeshore), for that reason, I think it would be great if incoming volunteers could give an imput and research farming methods/ alternatives that might be helpful, such as permaculture, and sharing the ways with local people, by that, giving them information and helping to experiment with different vegetables throughout all year, increasing the variety and amount of food available. I see that as a greatest asset a volunteer can bring.

Some of the things we did that I suggest others:
> Got bikes from Governors hotel and drove around the island in one day. It was challenging, but absolutely worth it.
> Visited orphanage near Senna. It is huge, arund 700 children live there and additionally the orphanage is helping more than 1000 children around the island from distance. This is a great place where to go help, the staff is very open and welcoming, they also already have international experience and volunteer home.
> Hiking around the island, people are lovely and nature is beautiful.
> Going to lake in very early morning when the water is still calm and crystal clear.

Some of the technical things that might help:
> Bring own water filtration system/ pills/ whatever you prefer.
> There are shops in center where you can get all basic needs - food, sweets, hygene supplies.
> There are places in center where to charge electronic devices for a small money, I usually left my phone there in the morning and picked it up in evening.
> The island felt very safe even when I was the only volunteer and was walking around alone. :)
> Be prepared to leave a donation.

John's family was very welcoming and really made me feel like they are trying to accept me. They share food and their home, opening their hearts to people crossing their paths. For that I am very grateful. I surely suggest having this experience to anyone wishing to live the local lifestyle.
