Hi! My name is Eliška Vágnerová, I’m 22 years old and I come from the Czech Republic. I’m taking a gap year to travel, volunteer, and discover new cultures.

For my first Workaway experience, I would like to go to the Alpine countries – for example Austria, Germany, Switzerland, or northern Italy. These places are close to my home country, and I think they are a great choice for my first experience abroad. I have visited Germany and Austria a few times and really enjoyed the beautiful nature, friendly people, and local culture.

I grew up in a small village with my parents and two younger siblings. This helped me develop a close connection to nature and a caring attitude, especially towards children. Before I continue with my studies in economics and political science, I decided to take this year to find more meaning, joy, and inspiration in what I do.

During my gap year, I would like to travel, meet new people, and learn new skills. I enjoy cooking and trying traditional dishes from different countries, and I would love to learn how to prepare local Alpine meals wherever I go. I love being outdoors – hiking, swimming, skiing, and ice-skating are some of my favourite activities. I also enjoy music, painting, theatre, and discovering local traditions and everyday life.

I’m also a big fan of Formula 1 and ice hockey. I enjoy following these sports and talking with people who share the same interest – it’s always a fun way to connect with others and learn about different cultures.

I have worked in a sports equipment shop, which taught me responsibility and good communication with customers. Since I was 15, I have also worked as an instructor at children’s camps, where I organised games and activities and learned to be patient, creative, and caring.

Through Workaway, I would be happy to join a family, ideally with children, as I really enjoy spending time with them. I’m also open to helping with household tasks, gardening, or animals. I am responsible, kind, and always eager to learn new things.

This gap year is not only about travelling, but also about finding my direction for the future and seeing whether living abroad could become a part of my life.

I am available to travel and start volunteering from the beginning of October 2025.

I speak Czech as my native language and English at an intermediate–advanced level. I also know some German and would love to improve it during my stay. If I travel to northern Italy, I would be happy to learn some Italian too. I enjoy language exchange and would be glad to share my Czech with anyone interested — it’s a fun way to learn from each other and discover new cultures.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I completed high school at a gymnasium in 2022 and then studied economics and political science at university. I have experience working in customer service and have been a children’s camp instructor since I was 15, organizing activities and supporting kids. I speak Czech (native), English (intermediate–advanced, and I am eager to improve my communication skills), and some German, and I am keen to learn the local language of the host family. I enjoy helping around the house, especially with cooking and baking, which are my strong skills – friends and family often praise my dishes. I am also comfortable with practical tasks such as assembling furniture, helping in the garden, and caring for animals. I am responsible, reliable, and adaptable, and open to learning new routines and skills.

Was noch ...

I enjoy knowledge-based competitions and strategy games, as well as simple card games, and I’m open to learning new games, especially because of my experience organizing games for children at summer camps. I love discussing and debating topics that interest me. I am passionate about music and would like to improve my skills – if the family has instruments, I’d love to start playing piano or guitar again. I also enjoy creative activities like painting and theatre, and exploring local culture. I like having activities under control and prefer to avoid risky or adrenaline-based experiences, so I feel most comfortable in safe environments. I am open to trying new hobbies or experiences that are engaging and enriching.
