Beschreibung

Hello. I am a young and fit 59 year-old man looking to spend some time in rural Spain working with an individual, family or group on their farm or smallholding; experiencing their lifestyle; improving my Spanish; and enjoying the surrounding countryside.

I am semi-retired and have a professional background in Environmental Policy, Management and Regulation, based in the UK with much international travel. I also spent 5 years running my own urban farming business, growing hydroponic salad leaves for restaurants and wholefood shops. The business didn’t survive the pandemic lockdowns, and since 2021 I have been based back in my home island of Jersey. I have been working during the Spring and Summer in Jersey Zoo, most recently in the Landscape Team (mostly gardening) and travelling/working/volunteering in the Autumn and Winter. From September to November 2023 I spent 10 weeks in the Galapagos Islands volunteering on a conservation project on a remote island. It was incredible. I am now here in Andalusia for 3 months looking for an opportunity here.

I am physically fit and enjoy hiking, cycling and swimming among other activities. I am a good-natured and laid back character (so they tell me) and enjoy a balance of time on my own and being in a group of people for work and leisure. I am hard-working and a self-starter and have experience in gardening and growing salads and vegetables. I don’t have any particular skills in building or trades, but can work in these areas if supervised and with others as I have experience as a labourer on farms and building sites as well as maintenance work.

I speak Spanish at ‘lower-intermediate’ level and want to practice the language where possible. I am an omnivore and have no special dietary requirements beyond wanting to eat healthy and locally-produced food.
