Hello! We're Becky and Connor and have saved up all our money to travel long term whilst hopefully giving something back, meeting new people and having new experiences.

We are very happy to get stuck in with any work at all, but our main skills lie in video and content creation. You can view some of my work here: https://beckonhols.my.canva.site or on social media @beckonhols

We both turn 29 this year and recently got engaged, having been together nearly 4 years. We both are vegetarian and have a keen interest in animal welfare and environmental sustainability. We also enjoy keeping fit, being in nature, are keen readers and are very interested in learning about the history and culture of wherever we visit.

Becky is an expert marketing professional specialising in managing the social media accounts and creating video content for UK charities. She has 8 years of experience working for charities and also has extensive volunteer experience including spending 2 months on a refugee camp in France in 2017.

Connor has a degree in economics and has worked as a manager for a top 6 accountancy firm in the UK for 7 years. He is also an excellent creative writer and enjoys journaling and writing blog posts of our travels.

We both love making new friends and immersing ourselves into local life, rather than just sticking to the typical tourist spots and routes.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am an expert social media marketer and have six years of experience working in the marketing team for charities in the UK. I have recently worked as the social media manager for London based charity The Felix Project (you can look up @TheFelixProject) and marketing manager for Cavell (you can look them up @CavellCharity). I also work freelance to produce video content for businesses and brands.

Using my video and content creation skills we can create immersive videos, scroll-stopping adverts, interviews, social media reels or youtube documentaries to promote your projects. I bring with my my own equipment and editing software and am very happy to produce the content that will help you the most. I am confident behind the camera as well as being on camera too.

Connor is a qualified chartered tax advisor in the UK but is also a superb writer. He writes blog posts and articles which we can submit to various travel publications as well as sharing on our own blog and for use on your website.

I am planning to grow my own social media pages whilst we travel which you can also look up (@beckonhols).

Aside from social media and content creation, we are great cooks (vegetarian!), love animals and have a lot of pet sitting experience, love the outdoors and are very happy to get stuck in with gardening, farming, painting. We are both English natives so very happy to support in conversations and developing English language skills too!

Was noch ...

We both love playing cards but would love to be taught some new games that you play in your cultures! Our favourite board games are Catan and Banagrams. We both love animals and nature, learning about new cultures and music. Our hobbies include cooking, reading, running and exercise.

Becky & Connor were quick to produce great videos that received lots of views. They also put a lot of effort into promoting the project and connecting us with other resources and opportunities.
They were very cooperative, flexible, and always willing to help.
We really appreciated their creativity, initiative, and support!

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join us in making the largest ...)

This is a truly unique, fun and creative space just outside of Taipei, we spent 3 weeks as a couple and overall our stay has been enjoyable!

Good points:
- the parade itself was an amazing day and a lot of fun to be part of
- free lunch & dinner is provided on work days, even as vegetarians there was always something prepared for us every day … read more and on days the chef was off we would receive $100 to get our own food
- the community itself is super interesting and the work was generally easy, enjoyable, and the hours were set as 10-12 then 1-3 with 2 days off per week, but were flexible and accommodating if you wanted to work through lunch or take an extra day off one week and work extra the next
- the long-term Balinese artists here are absolutely lovely and a lot of fun, and the art itself is magnificent!
- the location is great, very safe, plenty of convenience stores and restaurants near by and lots of buses around, you can also take the U-bike all the way into Taipei city down the river in about 50 minutes which is a lovely ride :)

Room for improvement:

- we felt the organisation and communication was all generally quite poor. I am not an artist but I have 5 years experience working in events as a professional videographer and PR/marketing strategist, and that is what we discussed me working on in all our messages prior to arriving. However once we arrived, we had no introduction to anyone, no real explanation of how anything worked, and were set the task of spray paint traffic cones for 3 days straight. I ended up taking my initiative and doing marketing work anyway, even working long hours into the evening to edit professional videos and contacting local media on their behalf, but received very little feedback or acknowledgement of this work, which was disappointing given that this was the contribution we'd originally discussed
- we weren't introduced to the team and although we were told arriving 3 weeks before the parade would be ideal, it turned out most of the volunteers has been there for 2 months already and we found it a little hard to integrate into the group.
- we were put in a private room in a house share with 7 men (I was the only female), and although everyone was very nice and I never felt unsafe or anything, I did feel a bit uncomfortable about using the shared bathroom and ended up paying for a gym membership nearby to shower. (The shower also often only had cold water)
- our bedroom was incredibly hot, the mattress very hard and we had to buy our own bed sheet as the ones provided were so poor.
- other housemates smoked indoors so it constantly smelt of cigarettes.
- they also forgot to explain to us key dates that the other volunteers had been told before we arrived, so we booked days off that we were then told we couldn't have and had to re-arrange some travel plans.
- on the day of the parade, everyone was expected to work a 14 hour work day. This wasn't optional and wasn't really set out in the explanation of the volunteering. There was also a big party on the evening of the parade day that wasn't communicated very well so we didn't know was happening and just got asked the next day where we had been.

Overall, we're glad we had the opportunity to experience the Dream Parade, it was a great and unique experience and we meet some lovely people, but better communication and organisation would have made our experience easier to integrate and enjoy more to the community here.
