My husband and I live in eastern Oregon in the United States. Mike was originally from Czechoslovakia and emigrated to the US with his family in his early 20s. He has dual Czech and US citizenship, while I have only US citizenship.

We are semi-retired from our own business (repairing and installing pumps and motors) and enjoy spending as much time as possible visiting other countries. In our travels, we have discovered we prefer to spend a longer time in one place and really connect with local people. We tend to avoid larger cities (both at home and when traveling) and are happiest doing physical activities outside - hiking, camping, cross-country skiing. We own over 300 acres at home, so we are not strangers to performing physical work and maintaining property. We also have experience with livestock and have no problem getting dirty. My husband is capable of fixing almost anything (he has a very problem-solving brain and nature, along with a long list of abilities), and I love the satisfaction of finishing a task or getting things organized. We prefer to work together on tasks whenever it is practical for our hosts, but we are also fine working on separate projects as needed.

We are pretty simple people. We do like to eat all different kinds of foods and appreciate trying local specialties, so a complete vegetarian or vegan diet would be pretty tough for us. We don't have TV at home, and we do not require much for entertainment - a nice view and a place to sit and appreciate it at the end of the day is great with us! We both enjoy trying local beer and wines wherever we are. Although we aren't in our 20s, we enjoy good physical health (both non smokers) and feel like we have a lot to offer to potential hosts. We keep our living areas neat and clean and would not be a burden wherever we are hosted. We will always try to make sure we more than meet our agreed working hours, because we greatly appreciate the compensation of meals and accommodation we are offered. On our days off, we will likely be heading to the mountains to hike and explore on our own, either via public transportation or in our own rental car, so you don't have to worry that we will expect you to entertain us!

We completed our first Workaway in 2024 and absolutely loved it! We are looking forward to finding the right opportunity for our next adventure.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Mike: In addition to being an all-around laborer, Mike is an expert in repairing pumps & motors and fixing things in general. He has extensive electrical experience. He has basic carpentry and construction skills and has done a lot of work with concrete. He can do a lot with not much and would much rather fix something than replace it, whenever possible. Mike is very meticulous and does high-quality work. He is a problem solver by nature.

Andrea: Is very task oriented. Andrea grew up on a small farm, so she has experience with most large and small animals and their care, and she feels comfortable around them. She can clean, cook, garden, rake, haul firewood, shovel poop, you name it. She is a better multi-tasker and organizer than Mike. If you want one thing done really well, ask Mike to do it. If you have several things that you want completed and done adequately, ask Andrea. We complement each other in our strengths and weaknesses.
