I am a spiritual person that believes tha we are all one and that everything (people and situations) is here for us and that every situation is an OPPORTUNITY. I like proving impossible things possible. I am focused on my spiritual growth through self-exploration. I am using meditation, yoga, breathwork, cold/ice bath, ecstatic dance, trauma healing and am open to explore other techniques. I feel very connected to the nature. I feel the best to spend time outside in the garden and in the countryside.

I am courageous, sensitive, optimistic, loving freedom. My values are openess, honesty, and truth. I appreciate connection. I like to stir good vibes and positive views. I am patient and calm. I like humour and having fun. I am reliable, responsible and organized.

I am passionate about healthy cooking, growing food and organizing/harmonizing living space to be beautiful. That is something I can offer to you.

Now I also feel a call to enter the world of children. Especially at the earliest ages. I feel I have love, attention and care that I can offer to your child. With everything that I have learned for myself I want to support your child in being and growing into a happy soul.

I like being active with physical activities especially with dancing, cycling, swimming and long walks in nature. I am keen on trying anything new. I have experience also with canoeing, climbing, tennis, ballroom dancing, tap dancing. I love travelling.

Vom Workawayer (Andrea) für Host (Help in my garden of aloe in ...)

This reference is for the stay that took place in June 2018.

I really fell in love with this place. I spent 11 days here. I love quiet Acicastello, Dani's beautiful garden was a paradise to me and his cooking pleased my gourmet myself just as much :-) and also the everyday walks along the sea to Acitrezza for icecream or cake, swim and chill out… read more were amazing.

The work involved to look after the most beautiful garden and sometimes clean one of the three rooms that Dani rents. After work me and other volunteers cooked lunch together w Dani and washed the dishes. Sometime he requested us to work also in the evening. Every evening we also cooked together the dinner. Dani is an amazing cook who cooks with his heart so every day felt like Christmas both at lunch and dinner :) He speaks little English but that is a chance to improve your Italian :) The whole location is very unique and beautiful with super relaxing atmosphere, where you are hidden from the direct sunshine under the big plants, with many hammocks, and other beatiful outside spots where you can chillout. There is a both inside and outside kitchen. Also an outdoor bathroom and toilet with a seaview :) The accommodation was either in a campervan or a tent. This is fantastic because you spend most of the day outside. The connection to Catania is very easy by local bus, 30 min for 1 euro ticket you can get at the tobacconist.

Now about Dani. I liked the man and hoped us to become friends. He seemed very easy going and open minded. He travelled a lot in his life. He was generous about food and helping you with your needs. When I arrived and asked about the working hours and work to be done, he just laughed, said take it easy and did not provide any information. Through the week I sort of grasped on the unspoken regime and worked from 8am to 1pm. --text redacted-- It somehow reached the point when he was very angry which made us feel very unconfortable so me and the other workawayer decided to leave immediately.

Therefore it is difficult to provide this reference for me and took me a while to do it. However I believe it is my responsibility to provide the complete picture as I saw it as it serves for the others as a reference just like when I read the references for other places and based on that choose my next host.

I loved the place. I also appreciated a lot Dani's company (I mean when he was not grumpy with ironic comments) and thought we could be friends. But he has his personal issues so this is something you will need to deal with. --text redacted-- However maybe there is a simple solution of spending your free time with Dani and giving him the company as that is something he values about the workawayers the most.

Well before I decided to go to this place I had read similar reference to mine about Dani and still decided to come and hope for the best and now after I did it I still think it was worth it :-)

Vom Workawayer (Andrea) für Host (Learn about landscape, ...)

I spent 3 weeks with Lorenzo & Placida, a Sicilian-Spanish couple and another 4 workawayers in a countryside 9 kilometres from Avola, up in thi hills about 300 metres above the sea level.

Since cooking is one of my biggest… read more passions I was so grateful to be given this opportunity. I had a chance to cook with various types of leaves that I never tried before. Also cooked some types of seeds and grains for the first time. But mostly I enjoyed the freedom of letting my creative part of me elaborate something original every day. Every meal felt like an adventure :-)

The site consists of the Lorenzo&Placida's little house, workshop where the jewellery is made plus Lorenzo's parents house plus there are 3 camper vans for the workawayers. The site is surrounded by carob and almond trees and I was lucky to be there exactly when there was the harvest season so I could pick a carob pods or crack the shell of fresh almonds. How exciting :-)

Very special thing is that the whole site is eco-friendly. There is a compost toilet. All the water used inside the house goes straight to the nature as only bio-friendly detergents are used. Only organic vegetable, fruit and products are used in the household. I was very impressed how determined Lorenzo and Placida are to follow the greenway. Since I myself follow this way I was happy to see new inspiration and simply green-living being practiced :)

Both Lorenzo and Placida are very nice souls who were very friendly and kind to me. I could talk to them about anything and they made sure that I had everything I needed or asked for. When I asked for the yoga mat...Lorenzo got me one quickly. Also since I am a passionate biker I was given a bike so I could go to the sea everyday and visit Avola and Noto.
With Lorenzo I had chance to see how beautiful and original jewellery you can make from natural resources like little almonds, pits, seeds, kernels or even prickled pear fibre. Also he enriched me with few cooking ideas.
With Placida I could share talks about dance, my another passion, as she is a contemporary dancer or just get "infected" by her always good mood and smile :-)

The couple is very relaxed and happy to share free time with workawayers showing them around. We had nice talks above the meals with another workawayers from Romania, Chile and USA. I could also join either Placida or Lorenzo for a ride to Noto or Avola or to Catania for yoga lesson. They always offered me a lift so I would not feel stuck up in the hills.

All together with workawayers with went to a open air concert in a beautiful nature spot above the Cava Grande at the sunset and on another occassion to Vendicari natural reservace seaside, then fishing in a lake to end up the whole day in Modica and enjoy focaccia and local chocolate :)

As a matter of fact I fell sick with a flu during my stay but Lorenzo and Placida looked after me until I was fit again and shared my cooking responsibilities among them and other workawayers in the meantime.

Also Lorenzo's parents were very friendly. Maria Rita invited us for lunch several times. She also showed me carob tree mushroom that she cooked for lunch on one occassion :-) I could practice my Italian with her.

Also there were two super friendly dogs - Palino and Ombra. I loved their company. They always joined me on the mat for my morning yoga or for the walk I took in the countryside :) And Tigrino, the tom-cat that loves to be cuddled probably the most in the world :)

It was nice to meet Placida & Lorenzo so as the other workwawayers and learn about their way of living as well as get to know this almond region and experience what it is like when you devote to your passion so it does not feel like work at all - in my case cooking :-)

Vom Workawayer (Andrea) für Host (Help with renovating an ...)

I spent 3 weeks this October with Marina and Edilson, a Sicilian-Brazilian couple. My responsibilities were to help Edilson for 2-3 hrs in the morning with work in the garden and the rest of the time usually do cleaning of the kitchen or some light houseworks and luckily also some cooking together with Marina as food is my passion :) As it was… read more vintage season I also helped to clean up the workshop and make a space for grapes pressing and then pick and press grapes and clean around. I was always clearly explained what work I will do and the working hours were fair. The hosts totally respected how I spent my free time.

The house is set in the middle of uphill countryside with few distant neighbours about 600 metres above sea level. Beautiful spot for the walks in the nearby area full of forests, vineyards and Etna of course. It was season of chestnuts and there were so many chestnut trees so I kept picking chestnuts and we cooked them and ate with our meals. The nearest village is 30 min by beautiful walk. There are many shops and pasticcerias :-)
Although Marina and Edilson live in the countryside they travel to Catania quite often for their business (Marina for giving rolfing therapy and Edilson for teaching capoeira angola).

I should mention that the house is historical building of vine press that was made into a family house with a beautiful rustic interior. The surrounding terrace garden is huge and offers wonderful view of the neighbouring hills and sea of course. I loved the mornings when the sun was rising above the sea. The garden supplies the family with many fruits and vegetables. It is simply a paradise spot :-)

Especially Marina is very socially active and the couple visits lot of their friends often. So I was lucky to join them for lunch and dinner parties, also joining capoeira angola lessons or just going for a trip to Catania. I also made a trip to Taormina and with couchsurfing community people I went to Etna and inland of Sicilia.

The hosts are a sweet couple who treated me literally like a part of the family :) They were so kind to me.

With a great effort and patience Marina helped me with my Italian on everyday basis and you cannot imagine how much you can improve within a short period :-) We also shared our passion for cooking as she is an excellent cook. She cooks mainly Italian dishes and I have put down many of her recipes :) She constantly kept an eye on me making sure I had all I needed and felt happy, also was giving me ideas for my free time and helping me with the logistics. She is extremely generous with everybody, sharing her time, knowledge, possessions and love :)

I loved working with Edilson even with the language barrier challenge.(Edilson speaks Brazilian Portuguese and little Italian and I speak also only little Italian) We met every morning, exchanged a small talk, Edilson always played his favourite Brazilian songs from the music player that he took even into the most furthest corners of the garden. I enjoyed that relaxed atmosphere a lot and even picked up some Portuguese vocabulary :) I appreciated his calm personality. He is always ready to smile and likes to laugh. He also cooked almost every day very nice chicken with vegetable and I loved the fish he cooked on my last day :)

And there were also two super friendly dogs Noici and Miele who followed me everywhere and greeting me everyday by the door of my little house. The accommodation was wonderful as it was in a little house attached to the main house with my own little kitchenette and bathroom which provided me with a total privacy and comfort.

I am very grateful to spend 3 weeks in the company of these wonderful people, learning from them, also learning about their life, enjoying Etna countryside, all the plants and trees, local village, meeting new people, trying new things, eating home made food and jams doing a relaxing job in a fresh air. All this gave me more pleasure and experience than I can imagine and enriched me in many ways.

Thank you Marina & Edilson. I keep thinking of you everytime I put on the sweater or hat from you or any time there is anything Brazilian mentioned xox :)

Vom Workawayer (Andrea) für Host (Help out on the land in our ...)

I spent 2 weeks with Kheli & Harvey, a Sicilian-British couple. They live in a beautiful modern family house totally lost in the paradise-like valley from which large windowns you can see just the surrounding hills covered with olive trees and prickled pears. With another workawayer Alex we usually worked in the garden and few hours (especially… read more when it rained) we did some light houseworks and I also cleaned a small studio that is rented via airbnb. The work was easy and always clearly explained. Working hours were fair and my free time activities respected. I especially enjoyed working outside as it was very relaxing and also given to the beautiful countryside.

Harvey and Kheli are total darlings who immediatelly included me as a part of their family. They were very kind to me. Especially Kheli made sure I was always happy and had everything I needed being it food or a program for my freetime or just a cheer-up word :)
Kheli is a loving soul with a great sense of empathy. She is passionate about forest school for pre-school children that she runs in their grounds.
Harvey does not speak much but when he does you realize what a fantastic sense for humour he has. He seems to be always happy and relaxed with a smile on his face.

There are also two naughty donkeys who provide for a lot of laughs as they roam around the land. You will not be able to avoid falling in love with Skipper the dog and there are also four tom-cats I had a chance to pet every day :)
Alex, the other workawayer, was a great and amusing companion thanks to his humour and especially broad knowledge about literally every possible topic.

The family makes a big effort to live in eco-friendly way. They make their vast garden into a permaculture using absolutelly no chemicals and growing fruit and vegetable to become self-sufficient.
They follow many alternative ways how to live more healthily not just eating healty organic food but also introducing other alternative aspects into their life style. Since I have the very same interests I appreciated the opportunity to learn a lot of new things and get new information on these topics. Being a gourmet I enjoyed their home made jams and almond and pistacio spreads, totally sugar-free :) Also we had wonderful salads every day for lunch made from their own vegetable and avocado!! First time in my life I enjoyed picking up orange, pomegranate apple directly from the tree!!! :)

The house is about 20 min walk from the nearby village Lascari where are many shops and cafes. Also there is a train station which takes you to Cefalu or to Palermo. Anyway I did not need that as I was always given lift by Kheli. We also did a wonderful trip all together w Kheli, Harvey, the other workawayer and a yoga teacher guest to a beautiful natural park, the Argimusco megaliths, the Stonehenge of Sicily. I enjoyed many walks in the paradise like orchards and nearby countryside. I also went by bike to the sea which is about 5 km.

The accommodation was truly luxurious in a single bedroom in the family house with a good heating system and a fireplace so I was always warm enough even though it was raining outside. It felt very special to take a shower outside the house under the stars and I always prefered it to the one inside the house :)

I had a wonderful two weeks in paradise with wonderful loving people who also celebrated my birthday with me. It was one of the best birth day I ever had :-)

Vom Workawayer (Andrea) für Host (Spend some quality time on ...)

I stayed at Guido's for 9 days and am happy and grateful for this experience. I had a chance to learn a bit about work in the garden ( which is both hard and relaxing) meet very nice people (Guido, his girlfriend Jenny from Hong Kong, Mathew, a teenager from Hong Kong, another workawayer Paula who became my very good friend, Guido's parents,… read more sister and grandma).

Important points about the work is that you need to get up early to be able to leave the house at 5:30 to move by the car to Guido's parents house where the garden is located to start working there at 6am. You can also go there by bike which I did because it is truly special to ride in the beautiful morning w Etna in front of you and sunrise above the sea behind your back :-) Also I chose to work longer hours to have 3 days off. That means we had a break for snack at about 11am and then finished at 2pm having lunch together with Guido' s parents that Guido's mum cooked at their house. Then I would usually take a bike and go for an icecream and ride along the sea and have a swim. Then we had a dinner around 8 pm to be able to go to bed at 9pm.

The work is easy but monotonous since you do the activity for several hours. I was untangling plastic strings on bamboo support sticks, attaching tomatoes plants to bamboo support stick, weeding tomatoes, picking up physalis, picking up brunches, peeling beans, fertilizing lemon trees. End of the working hours you end up very tired and sleepy, dirty, soaked with sweat, pain in the limbs you used the most but definitely content :-)

You have a chance to quiet your mind working alone , also to have a good talk about many interesting topics w Jenny and Mathew when working together, also you are surrounded by beatiful (jungle like dense) garden with all kind of exotic fruits and vegetable and nuts and you have a chance to taste it :-)

The accommodation is in a large flat w a large terrace together w Guido and his girlfriend in Carruba which is a small village on the sea 5 km from the garden and Riposto&Giarre town. The room I shared w another workawayer and it is well equipped and comfortable. Wifi is available.
There is a bar w pasticeria, pizzeria, bakery and grocery shop in the village, also a train station w direct trains.

The area is mostly lemon tree orchards. It is a bit difficult to access the sea in Carruba but w a bike you can easily reach very nice swimming places either sandy beaches past Riposto or swimming on vulcanic rocks in Stazzo.
I very much enjoyed cycling these seaside villages like Pozzilo, Stazzo and Santa Tecla or seaside from Torre Archirafi to Riposto and father along the sea up to Fiume Freddo where the river enters the sea. There are many gelato shops and many other and nightlife in Torre Archiraffi lungo mare. By train you can get quickly to either Catania or Taormina, the trains station is 5 min from the house.

I can definitely recommend this place but you should be able to cope with exhausting work, different schedule (5am-9pm day) but still being sleepy and tired to do anything else then just swimming and eating icecream:), You should be curious about the garden and farming because only then you can appreciate this experience :-)
You will meet Guido's family every day. They are very friendly and curious about you and you can share a simple conversation in English or richer conversation in Italian.
For me it was rewarding to learn about Sicilian gardening, exotic plants, meet these nice people, spend time w a Sicilian family, discover the orchard sea area, enjoy Sicialian cakes and gellato and swimming in the sea. Simly everything that came my way was an experience I appreciated :-) And the best of all I have met my new very best friend from Argentina here who was the other workawyer :-)))

Vom Workawayer (Andrea) für Host (Help out a Swedish - French ...)

I spent wonderful 35 days in Gattigue this is where the guest house, is situated. It was a wonderful time when I felt really awsame it was actually so fantastic that I thought I must be dreaming :-)

I must say that I REALLY enjoyed the work I was doing so it was rather a fun for me. Every day I prepared breakfast, which included preparation… read more of many items (4 flavours of jam, chocolate spread, honey, gluten free pastry, yoghurts, butter, salami and cheese plates, milk and juice jugs, musks with hot water and milk, freshly baked croinssants and pains au chocolat, baguettes and home-made cake, also cuttlery) and then move all the stuff to the breakfast room and lay the tables. Then I also talked to the guests about their possible needs and exchanged small talks just to make them feel comfortable. While the breakast was ongoing I did about two hours of ironing of sheets and towels. Very relaxing activity during which I always listened to some interesting talkshows on my headphones. Then I tided after the breakast and went to clean the rooms. Actually I always did all work together with Anna Karin who was always present and working with me and after 2 weeks also with another workawayer who joined our team :-) So every morning I felt really happy to walk into the kitchen and start another day :-)

The guests were nice people coming from France but also from Germany, Switzerland, United Kingdom. All of them spoke English. It was nice to meet them as they could be interesting persons and you could learn about different places, share a pleasant conversation or even some activity in your free time and make new friends.

The whole house is a fantastic piece of beautifully decorated space, every corner of it looks like from a magazine and is worth of taking a picture. Being surrounded by such a beauty both inside the house and also in the garden it made me extremely happy to work in such environment and to be able to help to cultivate it and take a rest in it after work :-)

The guest house is in a tiny village where you can only find a postbox and 11th century church BUT that was exactly what I was looking for. The place is so tranquile if you want to rest OR you can do many many wonderful walks starting them right from the house. I walked nearly every day 5-13 kilometres and there was always something to be discovered or a person to be met. The countryside is very very colourful which makes the walks very enjoyable, you can walk through a dense forest, wide pathes, over the hills, among the vineyards, green fields, pine forests, mediaval villiages...When we were curious about more further locations we had bikes available and even Anna Karin's car! Above all, every day I could watch absolutely stunning sunset sitting on a stone bench under a platan tree :-)

Anna Karin, the guest house owner, is an incredible woman. She is extremly hardworking but she takes also a lot of time to enjoy it with her family and friends. She has two very nice, well educated and several languages speaking teenage kids. She is very friendly. She took me to meet her friends any time possible which felt so great and welcoming, especially when you arrive to a totally new place. We also shared most of the family meals, preparing, eating and tidying after it together. She is very generous in any possible way, we could eat as much of food we wanted, she let us join her yoga classes and even offered her car for our trips. She is also very interesting. Originally she comes from Sveden, worked as a model for most of her life, became a yoga teacher and also makes a very nice pottery and ceramics. So there is so much you can learn from and about her during the time you spend together, many interesting strories about her life, starting the guest house, renovating it and running. She is very outspoken, straightforward and really good in communication. I find this quite important and you are at ease with her to talk to her or ask questions and also you always know what to do as she keeps on informing you about everything that is going on. Also she pays attention that you feel comfortable, eat enough and do not work extra hours unless you want to. She has a very young spirit both in her appearance but also in her inner attitude so do not be surprised when she starts dancing in the kitchen to the song of an interpret that her sixteen year old daugher follows ;-)

Uzés is stunningly beautiful little town, only 9 km away from Gattigue. You can reach it easily by car (Anna Karin goes there nearly every other day), by bus from another village, by bike or even a walk. I walked from Uzes to Gattigue twice and it was an awsome walk with many discoveries. Every Sunday there is a free bus right from the house to Uzes market leaving at 9:15 and taking you back at 12:00 together with white-haired grannies. At the market you can get all wonderful local food delicatessen, but also souvenirs, clothes, fruit and vegetable and many more. It is definitely worth of seeing. I went to Uzes on many occassion and there was always a plenty to discover. Half of the town is formed by a park with a neighbouring forest.There are many cafes, restaurants and shops.

Above that you can certainly visit towns like Nimes (we loved this city. they have the best pain au chocolat there !!..Boulangerie Lyonnaise, 6 Place de l'Horloge) for only 3 euros return ticket or Montpellier for 20 euros (return ticket from Nimes) or Avignon (easily by direct bus) :-) All these are very beautiful places worth of visiting.
Also it is advisible to do some tracks in the valley of river Gard. It is breath taking place and you can walk several hours there and have the best time and also swim in the river :-)

So it was a fabulous time for me in Les Sardines, it has been 10 days since I left it and I miss it awfully lot. It has a special place in my heart because it gave me a lot in being a totally gorgeous place, letting me to do the things I love to do, giving me chance to meet many nice people, learn about them about their way of life.

I also must mention my friend Nick. He was the other workawayer who joined me two weeks after my arrival and we spent 3 weeks together. He was just the best companion I could get :-) Although threre was quite a reasonable age difference between us we got on very well and did not just work together which was fun but also did a lot of walks, trips, chilling out in cafes. It was very rewarding for me to learn how you can discover a very nice person when you expect it the least and have a lot of great time together. Because all things good are really good when you can share them! :-)

Vom Workawayer (Andrea) für Host (Share experiences, helping me ...)

I stayed with Mauri in his genuine B&B for 13 days. It was my very first workaway experience and it was just super great and I feel really grateful for that. There was another… read more workawayer at the same time like me, Franca, who appeared to be a super nice girl, we spent our free time together and had many good talks and laughs and this made my stay really special. She is an inspiring girl with lot of good vibes, clever thoughts, artistic soul and you will be really lucky to meet her in her next workaway location :-)

Maurizio - Mauri is a wonderful guy with a good heart, very generous, he likes to joke a lot. He treated me and another volunteer Franca really nicely always paying attention we had everything we needed and that we enjoyed ourselves. During my stay I got a terrible toothache. Mauri was very helpful trying to get me a painkiller from his friends (after pharmacy was closed) and also accompanied me to a local dentist and spent his time waiting there with me.
He is the property owner and the sole employee. His B&B is a way how he makes living. The summer is the seasons when he earns money that will cover the winter season when he does not really have guests. Therefore a workawayer should understand that it is very important for Maurizio that he has as many guests as possible and he provides the best service to them. He follows his rating on booking.com every day. This also means that he works very hard, starts working early in the morning and finishes after midnight. This means he is always busy with his work, preoccupied and you should really initiate setting up your everyday routine with him.

Work - We did all work together, I mean Maurizio, me and Franca. In the morning it was mostly Maurizio who prepared breakfast for the guests as he really enjoys this part. In the meantime we had breakfast, cleaned the tables and kitchen (emptied dishwasher, washed dishes, swept and mopped the floor). After the guests left the rooms we cleaned the rooms (3) and bathrooms (2). Then we washed the linen and towels, hanged them and after it was dry put them into cabinets. We also sanded chairs and wood for the new furniture and painted them afterwards. We washed the car, kept the yard clean. First four days I worked the whole day as Maurizio needed to finish the room he wanted to start renting. However it was balanced with time off on the other days.

Accommodation - We all slept in one room, me and Franca on a bunker bed. It was all right, no problem with that.

Food - There was always plenty of wonderful food in the fridge. We had always great supplies of organic fruit and vegetable from the garden of Mauri’s parents. We either ate together or as we wished. Mauri prepared excellent lunch and dinner for us on many occasions.

Location - Tortoli is a small town of village-like feel. There are tourists around which means there are many cafes, restaurants, clothes shops, pharmacy and supermarkets around. Me and Franca became regulars to one of the local „pasticceria“ called Ascione in Via Tirso 14 :-))) There are many gardens around Tortoli which is a nice area where to cycle. There are many beaches 3-4 km away from the B&B. We usually reached them on bikes (Mauri has 3 available for your use). Worth of visiting is certainly many places, e.g. Baunei village, Cala Goloritze...

Experience - Mauri took us to several trips. One evening when it was already dark we went by car to a nearby beach which was people-free. There we ate pizza, drank beer, watched the stars, listened to the see and some Italian songs from Mauri’s phone. It was one of the most beautiful things I did in Sardinia. At one Sunday we went to Mauri’s parents lunch. It was great to meet them as they were really friendly, Maurizio’s father spoke English and he showed us his amazing garden full all fruit and vegetable. We had grilled mutton with all kind of vegetable side dishes both grilled and fresh, home-made bread and wine. We totally overeaten ourselves and then struggled when totally organic and beautiful fruits like water melon, figs and cactus fruit (prickly pears) were served as desert.
On another day we drove with Mauri and B&B guests to the valley of Bau Mela and then we had huge lunch consisting of a typical Sardinian dishes like roasted piglet, malloreddus, cullingioni, various salami and cheese, plenty of wine and mirto, local liqueur.
Mauri also took us to wonderful Cala di Perda Longa with green-blue water where we swam and snorkeled. On other nights we had a big barbeque with other guests or we went out for dinner in a restaurant, also went to a concert by the sea in Arbatax.
