Hello! My name is Alyssa (they/them)
My passions and values are found at the intersection of environmentalism, community, and creativity. I am studied and passionate about environmental science, especially in the fields of botany and arboriculture (I am a certified Arborist). Working with and caring for plants is important to me.

Community is an integral aspect of living a purposeful life for me. Connecting with other people brings me great joy. I love to learn about where and how different folks have grown up, what challenges they have faced, and the things that bring them joy. Caring for each other and working together for the common good is something I highly value.

I am a naturally creative person who is drawn to painting, drawing, music and poetry. I am a muralist, a music enthusiast, and I hope someday to publish a book of my poetry. I love the exchange of art and ideas; collaborating on projects is something that greatly interests me. I am also fascinated by philosophy and love discussing and sharing ideas about life.

I am looking for my place in the world and I think that traveling, meeting new folks, and learning more about homestead/community living will help me get closer to this discovery. I am enthusiastic, hard working, and ready to assist with projects and learn new skills needed by hosts. I am unendingly curious and can't wait to get to know you and yours!

I have experience working with both indoor and outdoor plants from working in greenhouses, vegetable gardening, and as a plant health care technician. I am an ISA certified arborist. I am looking to learn more about farming, gardening, and horticulture in general.

I have lots of customer service experience. This experience comes from working in retail, in an office setting, and from assisting clients in small business.

I am fairly versed with online platforms, including social media, Microsoft office and Google suite.

I am used to jobs involving physical labor, but do have some chronic pain that I need to be patient with.

I can use a wood splitter and chop wood with an axe (I find this super enjoyable!). I am also handy at keeping a fire going. I have experience with operating a backhoe tractor.

I have experience in animal care as a dog/cat sitter and also with horses, goats, donkeys, cows, chickens and other birds. I was a horse barn hand for 5 years!

I am also an experienced muralist/painter and am happy to help with creative projects.

Overall, I am highly motivated to cultivate new skills and tend to be a quick learn.

Where do I start! I have been at Leea’s for over a year and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Between all of the sweet babies, the property, and Leea herself, my time here has been so cherished. The animals are wonderful, loving and I have really enjoyed the routine of taking care of them through the seasons. The house… read more is gorgeous and accommodations comfortably welcoming and the grounds offer endless means of exploration (and foraging opportunities!).

I have learned so much from Leea, she is truly a Jack of all trades and so so smart and versatile. She is also one of my favorite people ever! We have become great friends, living with Leea is easy and fun. She is so wonderful to talk to, kind and thoughtful. I appreciate her companionship and I will really miss living with her with my departure. In addition to various work projects around the property and excursions around RI, Leea always included me in outings with her friends, who are also so lovely!

The seasons at the property bring many different tasks. The process of heating with wood is very fulfilling in the winter. Chopping, stacking and keeping the fire going brings a nice intentionality to winter. I did lots of room turnovers for our Airbnb guests, who are so lovely to meet and have around. General indoor and outdoor cleaning and maintenance, as well as other miscellaneous projects. The dogs require lots of snuggling and pets. The garden in the spring and summer was satisfying to tend to and yummy to eat from. There is never a shortage of good food and homecooked meals at Leea’s!

I have learned and grown so much in my time here and am planning on returning in the future if Leea is not tired of me yet! I will miss all of the animals, the sweet pups, Jim the cat, the cow, donkey and goat, but especially the chickens and Wilma the parrot who is the coolest pet ever. I strongly recommend staying here if you want to learn more about homesteading, are an animal lover and work well independently. Leea does have a busy work schedule, so you will be running the show while she works, but will get to enjoy her company on her days off. There are trails, a bike path, instruments and lots of books to indulge in. Anyone looking for a steady routine and some country peace will love this workaway. This place has a special place in my heart, so much love to you Leea!

Alyssa did an outstanding job on the farm and was an absolute joy to spend time with! She has an outstanding work ethic and is willing to take on any task.
