Beschreibung

Hello!

We are partners (Will and Maya) living a life of exploration together. Will is a vehement musician and outdoors-activity enthusiast. Maya is an avid writer, reader and creative soul with a deep affinity with animals.

We are particularly looking to help places where we will be: beneficial to others or animals; in a community / with other volunteers; involved in permaculture (learning) and gardening; being creative. We are both vegan, and Maya works online a couple of evenings a week so needs internet access for this. We travel using foot and public transport.

Our first trip was for two months in Spain staying with three Workaway hosts. The first was a donkey sanctuary where we helped care for the animals alongside our host and 6 volunteers. Here we learned how to maintain stables and quickly picked up the sanctuary’s feeding/watering systems.
Our second was at a Spanish family’s mythological art project where we helped with construction and art installations, as well as integrating into family life with the three kids by cooking, cleaning and playing.
Finally, we stayed on an eco-build project where we learnt how to construct using hemp, maintained a vegetable garden, and childminded.
We then stayed for three weeks at a vegan sanctuary and glamping site, where we helped fit a roof onto a barn, maintained a chicken coop, prepped the Airbnb site for guests, assisted in vetinary care for the goats and completed general maintanence and painting tasks.

We seek a dynamic and ever-changing lifestyle, full of challenge and adventure, where we can exercise our philosophies of presentism, openness, and sustainability.

Our companionship is strengthened by a shared worldly outlook and deep desire to foster happiness while navigating and understanding other ways of life. We now wish to share our joy for life and the world, while contributing to the growth of your spaces and passions. Through Workaway, we are excited to meet likeminded people with the same drive for collectivism and love for holistic support and unity.

Our greatest passions revolve around nature: being outdoors, exercising peace, and showing respect for the planet. Engaging with the natural world and working for its benefit is high on our agenda: namely, learning permaculture practices, animal care and gardening skills. We have a flair for cooking (vegetarian/vegan) and are excited to learn new local dishes while sharing some of our own. We also enjoy being around people and within communities, sharing and listening to their stories and experiences while forging friendships and helping those who ask along the way.

We are rugged and capable people. Our various skills and attributes complement each other well, granting us a strong roster of skills that make us a powerful team and reliable individual workers. Between us we have experience with manual labour, hospitality, marketing, and working with and caring for animals and children.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Maya:
- Work Experience: I have accumulated a diverse skillset through volunteering in a charity bookstore, leadership roles in social/voluntary committees, working in supermarket, as a waitress, and writing professionally.
- Gardening: Worked collaboratively to cultivate our family's allotment, preparing the soil, planting and maintaining fruits, vegetables and herbs.
- Animal Care: I grew up with a Labrador and ginger tabby and was the primary walker and feeder for the dog. I've helped on my grandmother's farm, caring for two donkeys, a dog, two cats and an anxious, rescued horse.
- Children: I have babysat a range of ages, including a trio of Spanish and English speaking kids aged 3, 7, 11. I looked after my younger brother after school by cooking, entertaining, and helping with homework.
- Arts: Creativity has been a guide in my life, and I've found fulfilment through various arts, including acting, poetry performances, costume design, writing, painting, and pottery.
- Marketing: I have worked in numerous professional roles that involved social media promotion, copywriting, SEO, blog writing, and persuasive tender writing. I have a keen interest in photography, predominantly with 35mm film.
- Manual Labour: From 11-18, I was an active member of Sea Scouts and built up a natural strength through kayaking, sailing, rowing, and more. Since studying and working full-time, I have felt a lack of physical labour in my life, so this is an area I am most interested in improving.

Will:
- I have a very adaptable skillset, having worked a variety of jobs including: Climbing instructor, guitar teacher, Pizza chef, professional cleaner, bar staff, hotel work, Scouting Youth Commissioner/Leader, carer on a pilgrimage for the elderly, teaching English to Syrian refugees, and charity shop/retail work.
- My degree studying Neuroscience and Philosophy has given me insight and wisdom into various world outlooks and approaches to looking after mental ill health, ethical questioning, and science. This is a knowledge base I would love to share and discuss for the benefit of yourself and others.
- A skilled guitar player (and general instrumentalist), I would love to teach and jam with other aspiring musicians.
- I am strong and in good physical health, so am keen to participate in manual work. Building and carpentry are things I believe I would take to naturally and I am very interested in learning these trades and skills.
- A good artist, I love creating things and have a particular eye for detail.
- I was a member of the Scouting Organisation throughout my youth, wherein I learned general survivability and life skills. Being a leader and youth representative, I have plenty of experience at enthusing and entertaining young people while also teaching them useful lessons.

Was noch ...

We love to play card games and board games, seeing them as great communal ways to have fun and spark conversations. Where Maya is an excellent conversationalist, Will enjoys equally taking some time and space for reflection and peace. Spending plenty of time outdoors and in nature would make for a great Workaway for us.
