Hi, I'm Sophia- Class of 1993, British-born and a creative free-spirit and simple joy seeker. In 2020, I quit the fast life to slow travel and volunteer with communities across the world over 5 years. I am now back home in London, taking some time to chill and build connections. While changing my career path...

I love creativity, storytelling, reggae music, a good walk, fresh air and learning from culture and nature. After travelling long term in the last 5 years, I'm very much a less is more person. I love free spirits and open minds, and enjoy learning about sustainability and community projects, plus going to live music events and hearing travel stories.

I have returned home to London after 5 years of solo travelling. Looking for paid positions and to connect with interesting projects and people!

Workaway history:

2025:
- Spent 6 months travelling Australia, Norfolk Island and India. Now currently in the U.K.
2024:
- Spent 5 months living in Guatemala, and then travelled the UK, Philippines and Thailand
2023:
- Travelled, housesat and volunteered across South America in Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.
2022:
- Scotland - Clearing a new path of a country park, helping with litter collection and gathering materials to help rebuild a new path.
- Croatia- Volunteering with an autistic 14-year-old in Croatia. I loved this experience and connecting with a child who was non-verbal and unable to be left alone. Duties included cooking, playing, getting creative, ensuring she did not harm herself, cleaning and taking the child on daily walks.
- Bulgaria- Held 2 permaculture positions in Veliko Tarnovo, helping with gardening, rearranging plants and growing food. One Workaway invited me back to housesit for them for 2 weeks with their 4 cats and dog.
- Portugal- Assisting a physically disabled author with home tasks including cooking, clearing, decluttering and developing her latest novel.
India- Volunteering with local street children and creating art, music and teaching English.

I've always been a motivated and driven individual, but with a spiritual touch :) I want to genuinely help people, feminine and gentle energy allows us to care for our work without work causing stress. Slow and steady wins the race for me, although I can be flexible depending on your needs.

Other skills include gardening, lifting, decluttering, painting, and aspiring you to be your best self. I am a traveller, kind at heart, and open to discussing anything! Freedom of mind, positivity spreader, always have a smile on my face, love animals, children and making genuine connections.

Was noch ...

After 5 years working in corporate London, in March 2020, I checked out of my home, bought a one-way ticket with the intention to travel Asia, Africa, South America and Australasia over the next 3 years!

However, when my travel plans were halted by the pandemic I spent the next 9 months of 2020 living in lockdown India. With 6months in Rishikesh at the foothills of the Himalayan mountains and onto Dharamshala for 6 weeks. Finally living for my last 3 months in a very empty Goa (no tourists!) before returning to the UK in December 2020.

I'm always on the lookout for my next slow travel adventure and connect with like-minded slow and minimalist individuals in the UK and abroad. To learn a little more about me and my passion for slow living I began a travel blog: beautyinabackpack.com.

I am particularly interested in working in slow fashion, with/ teaching children, creating art, learning Spanish, as well as property development/ DIY/ renovations. I am a conscious talker, caring human and always interested in the world. I love to discuss mindfulness, culture, free-thinking, global, feminist and environmental topics.
