Hello :) My Name is Saige, I am a 30 year old female from New Zealand. I was born in the UK but have lived in NZ for 26 years, so I am very much Kiwi. I can be a little shy at first, but when I am comfortable, I am bubbly, outgoing and love to laugh and make people smile. I enjoy socializing and getting to know people on a deep level, but I am also happy to spend time on my own reflecting and enjoying the silence. I try my best in everything that I do and take initiative. I am an empathic and caring person, and I enjoy being around people with depth, who can talk about the important things in life.
I am coming to explore Latin America, Central and South, for approximately 2 years. This has been a trip I have wanted to do for many years, and I am excited and nervous that the time has come to live out my dream.
My main goals of coming to Latin America is to;
1) To learn Spanish. I have been learning on my own for approx. 3 years, but I am still very much a beginner. I really hope one day to become fluent.
2) Be immersed in local cultures and activities and to learn about the history, ancient civilizations and people of the land.
3) To explore jungles, forests and natural landscapes, I love camping and will be bringing my camping gear and trying to find places I can hike from and if I am lucky, see some wild animals!

I would love to offer any language exchange and help with understanding and learning of English (And the silly Kiwi slangs we have haha!) - I am patient and understanding. I am also hoping to find people who are patient and understanding to help me with my development of Spanish, it is a big reason I am coming to Latin America to Learn, although I am very shy and haven't practiced with A Spanish speaking person before.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am a qualified vet nurse who worked in this industry for 4 years and did this around Europe for a couple of years. However, I decided that I got a lot more joy and love out of the husbandry and looking after of animals. In the last year I have also worked in a retail environment, selling storage and organizing systems. I wanted to expand my working skills so I would have more opportunities when I was volunteering and working abroad. I have great customer service skills and have skills in reception type roles as well.

I also have been studying DBT and Mentalization based therapies the last couple of years, for myself and my own mental health, and enjoy talking with people about mental health and self-understanding.

I have a passion for gardening, I revamped my mums garden and have enjoyed both the ornamental aspect of gardening as well as the rewards of growing fruits and vegetables. I have been farming mushrooms for a couple of years as well and would love to learn about wild edible holistic plants, mushrooms and herbs.

I am a very hard-working person and enjoy complete tasks and helping others.

I am a creative and sensitive person who enjoys singing, making art and trying new things - one of my philosophies in life is to try everything at least once! Other hobbies I have has in the past include riding my bike, longboarding, fire twirling, hiking, growing and foraging eatable mushrooms.

I am wanting to do WorkAway volunteering as I know from experience it is a beautiful way to be immersed in local culture, give back to the world, meet interesting and passionate people, explore non-touristic places, get closer to nature and the environment and to exchange time and work for accommodation and food.
