I work for a children's mental health charity in the U.K. called Nudge Minds/Nudge Education. At University, I studied Theology at Durham, with a year abroad in Leuven, Belgium. Before, during and after university I worked as a ski instructor, so I have experience teaching and guiding children.
I love to be outside in nature, and to meet new people. I also appreciate having time and space on my own. I am physically capable and fit, and interested in holistic health and wellness - food, beauty, and the connection between mind, body and spirit. My religious background is Catholic.
In my spare time I also freelance as a writer and researcher, so if content creation is needed I am happy to write and edit for you.

I would like to find somewhere where I can experience a different culture (at the moment, I am hoping this could be Italian, as I would like to learn the language). I am looking for a place where I can meet amazing new people and hopefully make lifelong connections. My biggest requirement is to have a room that is quiet and private.

My interests are very wide and I would be happy to talk with you and hopefully hear about your experiences and get to know you better. Please do reach out if you would like to, I would be very happy to hear from you :)

Vom Workawayer (Rosie ) für Host (Join our family and spend ...)

I stayed with this beautiful family for 4 months, arriving in January 2024.

Lucia and Michele, and their friends and extended family, are just good people - honest, kind, hard-working and generous. And fun. They will do whatever they can to include you and involve you in their family and their life. They want to make you feel welcome and at… read more home. They want to show off their Sicilian culture to you, which they are rightly very proud of. One of my first weeks in Palermo, they asked if I would like to go to the theatre with them. I said yes, not realising that they had bought the ticket especially for me, just so I could experience the beauty of it with Arianna. But that is just what they are like - quietly generous and kind.
Also Lucia and Michele are both amazing cooks, and will be very glad to share typical Sicilian recipes and meals with you. Michele usually takes care of lunch for Arianna, and also for you if you would like to eat with them, and Lucia takes care of supper, where you will often be joined by the beautiful Francesca - Arianna's maternal Nonna.

Arianna is a very lively little girl, adored by her parents, her grandparents and their extended family and friends. Her dream is to grow up to become a "maestra" - a teacher. I think she will make a fantastic one. Arianna is very sensitive, generous, artistic and kind. She likes beauty - dressing up, playing games, watching movies and making up dance routines. Like all 6 year olds, sometimes she has tantrums or gets overtired, but her parents will discipline her if and when this happens, if you communicate with them. She is a very good girl and she wants to please both of her parents, and she also works very hard.

Arianna practises gymnastics 3 times a week. One of your duties will be to take her to gymnastics and collect her afterwards - a very easy task. Your other duties will be speaking to her in English, helping with her homework and taking care of her while her parents are at work. My usual hours with Arianna were from 1:30 when she comes home from school until maybe 5-7 when Lucia came home from work, however some afternoons will be free if Ari has music or is seeing her Grandma. Ari also often has a little bit of downtime in the afternoons after school, depending on her commitments that day. Sometimes Arianna and I would play on evenings and weekends, if I was there, but this was never expected or asked of me, however I do think it is nice occasionally to help Lucia have a little time to herself as she works very hard, both in the home and at work.

I do think it is worth mentioning that I struggled to sleep when I was there, to hopefully avoid a similar situation occurring in the future. If you are easily disturbed, like to go to bed early, or have a history of sleep sensitivity, or are simply going through a moment like that in your life, perhaps consider this when applying. The room appointed for the workawayer is in the centre of the house, beside the kitchen and utility. Being a typical Southern Italian family, the family often eat late, when Michele returns from work (maybe 8:30/9pm).

Lucia and Michele did everything in their power to support and make me comfortable through this - from buying me camomile tea, to trying not to make noise in their own house, which I felt awful about. In the end I often would take myself to stay in an airbnb nearby so that I could sleep, and then come back in the day to help take care of Arianna, which obviously was not sustainable, and poor Lucia found a bit distressing because she so badly wanted me to be happy and to sleep well. I am really sorry for that.

So, to sum up, please do not consider applying if you do not have a pure heart and good intentions. This family deserve nothing but the best.

To Lucia, Arianna and Michele - you have enlivened my heart, and you will always have a place in it. I hope to see you again soon. Arianna - you are always welcome to visit me in England, to write to me and stay in touch as you grow and develop into the formidable young woman I know you are capable of becoming. I hope you do.

Thank you for all of the beautiful experiences - my favourite memories were the bbq on Easter Monday, celebrating my birthday with you (thank you again for my incredibly special necklace, I will cherish it) and most of all your gentle daily love. I will never forget it.
