Hello! I'm Pip, an 22 year-old student currently studying Zoology at university.

I am an active, passionate, respectful, easy-going kind of person who is not afraid to get stuck into work. I am open-minded and happy to slot into your way of life!

I have a passion for animals, in particular for animal behaviour and training, and would love to learn more about different training methods and styles. I have ridden horses for over 10 years in a range of disciplines, and want to further my knowledge of logical, ethical training methods for both horses and other species.

Another passion of mine is photography. I have some experience in sports photography but am now wanting to learn more about taking still portraits and landscapes.

I have a love for new places and learning about different countries' cultures and wilderness. Although I find beauty in (grey and rainy) England, I have an itch to explore and see the world. I can't wait to start travelling and learning from all the different people out there!

Was könntest du arbeiten?
I am passionate about animal behaviour and training and have experience both in ridden training (in particular in mounted games) and working on the ground with a frightened, feral pony. I aim to always use logical, ethical methods in training that respect the animal's natural inclination. I am happy to share what I have learnt so far, and am very keen to learn new methods and techniques, especially in working with other animals like dogs.

Having grown up around horses, I am not afraid of muddy or hard work and, for me, the animals always come first, even when the weather is not so nice.

I have recently got into photography, initially to take photos at sports events but I am now also working on capturing still portraits and landscapes. So, if you have the odd photo that needs to be taken (e.g. for a website or promotion) I would be more than happy to give it a go. However, I am no expert so no promises!

English is my native language and I speak French to a conversational level, having studied it to A-level standard in England. I would be happy to help anyone who is studying English, and would really like to improve my French.

Vom Workawayer (Pip) für Host (Join our fun and friendly ...)

Jane and Rich are two of the most open, generous, and friendly people I have ever met! They welcomed me into their family so immediately this spring and I felt at home right from the start of my 6-week stay.  

Their home is lovely, with a gorgeous brook where you can walk the dogs (which are two of the sweetest dogs ever) and quiet surrounding… read more lanes. They have a trio of mares (and 2 cheeky ponies!) that are all very good to handle and move etc. I even had the opportunity to ride Jane’s horse Inka which was a real treat! She is lovely to ride, and getting to hack out around the fields with Jane was so nice.  

On a daily basis I checked the chickens and collected eggs, walked and fed the dogs, looked after the ponies (poo picking, feeding, getting in and turning out, mucking out, and sometimes putting on the walker) and did odd little bits of housework (emptying the dishwasher, hanging out clothes etc.). I also did some gardening and tack cleaning over the time I was there, and tried to keep their tadpoles alive! Some evenings I looked after the children for a few hours and made their dinner (always very quick and easy), and at weekends I often helped the children get to and from tennis and got ponies ready for pony club outings/lessons. The children rode around their place some evenings which was lovely, and I helped out where I could although the girls are very self-sufficient! They were also both really keen to try new things with the ponies, including learning how to vault which they both aced! Jane and Rich were very careful to never ask too much, and there was lots of downtime to relax/work on your own projects.

Richard is indeed very busy (and runs on a superhumanly-low amount of sleep!) but will always take the time to explain an interesting case at work and check that everything is ok. He also offered for me to come in to his work which I really enjoyed, even if it has given me a bit of a career crisis! I also had the chance to spend a day at Jane’s work which was amazing - I had never seen so many gorgeous horses in one place before!

  I was lucky to have my own transport and so took the opportunity to head into Newmarket to see the morning rides up the gallops, and also spent a day in Cambridge which is very pretty. Jane was also more than happy to offer me a lift if there was somewhere else I wanted to go (: I had to dash away for a few days over a weekend for family but Jane and Rich were both really easy-going about me leaving at such short notice which I was really grateful for. 

I am vegetarian and Jane and Rich were incredibly accommodating of this. Jane always made sure that I had everything I wanted to eat (and more!) and was always happy to have a vegetarian meal in the evening. I should mention as well - Jane’s cooking is amazing and I have taken several of her recipes home! They even ate the odd meal that I cooked without grimacing too much ;)

Overall, I had a great time with Jane, Rich, and family, and they were all so welcoming. They lead busy lives but Jane has it all organised (even if she says she doesn’t), and I look forward to seeing them again soon!
