Cross country skiing, snow activities, meeting the locals, getting involved.

Beschreibung

We love travelling and getting involved in other cultures, communities and families. Pete and I took our kids slow travelling when they were young - volunteering in Equador and Mexico, living in the wintery north of Canada, working on HelpX in Sweden, Czech Republic and Germany.
With them grown up we now have time to travel some more.
Getting out into the world, new experiences, new places, helping out folks, families and communities, helping our world be a better place, spending a lot of time being active out in nature....these are things we both love.
I play music in a few bands - celtic and bluegrass aswell as a classical orchestra. We cross country, downhill and ski tour, teach white water kayaking, sail our yacht, sea kayak, mt bike and hike. Any day out in the wilds/nature is a great day!
I grew up riding horses, we have a border collie, chickens and have had other pets over the years of the kids growing up. Pete and I live in the middle of a small town in our 100 year old villa (thats old for New Zealand) that we rebuilt entirely ourselves. Im a woodworker and Pete is handy in most things - especially good with a chainsaw and loves to construct.
We have big vegetable gardens and a home orchard that we run organically. We work hard, work well together and complement each others skills. Between us we can do most things and happy to give anything a go.
My background is very varied - from sailing yachts and ships for Greepeace, social work, boat building, outdoor instructor/raft guide to my most recent work in a high school maintaining and fixing woodwork and engineering equipment.
We are hoping to find hosts to volunteer for in the northern Lapland area of FInland and Sweden. May consider further south, but that would most likely be last minute.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Pete and I have a large variety of interests, skills and expertise and can give nearly anything a go. Pete is a civil engineer, specializing in sustainable transport. And is a theatrical clown in his other life, aswell as leading scouts, racing yachts, butchering animals, rebuilding and constructing our own house, sheds etc. I have organic vege gardens and a home orchard so have done a lot of foodie things - preserving, drying, processing and love to cook. We have been caretakers on a remote island - so great at self sufficiency. Boat building and woodwork have been part of my background- I did all the woodwork in our house and have rebuilt stringed instruments -violins, violas and the double basses that I play. We are hard working, love to get involved, try different things, have new experiences. We work well together and complement each other’s skills.
