Hi

My name is Matt Flynn. I'm from London. I work as an electrician and outside of work I like to keep active. I enjoy playing and watching most sports. Beach volleyball and Surfing are two sports that I am hoping to try and do more regularly. I much prefer being outdoors than indoors and am always up for trying something new. Outside of sport I like spending time with my family as well as being out and about with friends. My other passion alongside Sport is Music. I enjoy going to gigs, festivals and will have some form of music playing at most stages throughout the day. Food also brings the best out of me. Over the last couple years I have developed an interest in nutrition, and exploring food at a deeper level. What it does to us, how it does it, and varying methods of cooking it. If I was to have a career change this would be a possible avenue I'd explore.

Happiness. I'm most happy when the people around me are happy. I enjoy putting a smile on peoples face and working within a team to solve a problem or reach a goal. While I didn't enjoy the studying / classroom side of things at school so much, the older I get the more addicted I am becoming to learning. I spent 3 months living in Barcelona at a spanish school and recently completed my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course.

I returned to London after 13 months exploring, volunteering and living in Brasil, Colombia & Ecuador last Christmas. The goal was to return as soon as possible. I am now in Mexico and looking to create more experiences and memories here over the next few months.

I have my Teaching English Course (TEFL), and started giving lessons during my time in Colombia. Teaching both privately and at a school in Medellin. I have studied Spanish on and off over the past couple of years. Starting at a Spanish school in Barcelona and continuing throughout my time in Colombia and Ecuador. I have spent my first week here in Mexico at a school, which has been very beneficial. Enabling me to see where I am, how far I've come and given me plenty more to work on. Having spent six months in Brazil, I temporarily switched my focus to Portuguese and was able to spend a good amount of time studying it. I am growing in comfort and confidence within Spanish conversations. It is a real motivation of mine to learn at least one of these and I think giving lessons in English can be equally beneficial in helping to achieve this.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

A qualified electrician. With 6 years experience. I have worked on flats, offices, train stations and science laboratories. The role involves wiring and terminating circuits / equipment as well as building the metal containment systems that transport them. Prior to becoming an electrician I spent two years at University but did not finish. After leaving I worked as a caretaker, marquee rigger, and in the logistics team at Twickenham Rugby Stadium preparing bars for match day. Competent with both hand and power tools, for building sites and gardens. I enjoy manual labor and am happy to get my hands dirty. I have a UK driving licence. I have also worked in hospitality as a waiter and a barman. My first job was as a lifeguard in a swimming pool.

Since joining Workaway a year ago, I have completed numerous roles as a volunteer. Trying my hand and learning about so much. I have worked:

- as hostel maintenance, helping to keep the hostel operating safely and efficiently;
- I have helped in kitchens and worked in Bars;
- I have organized activities and quiz nights for guests;
- given English lessons to local staff;
- worked in gardening and cultivation;
- in a cat shelter, rescuing and caring for homeless cats;
- in the jungle at an new Eco Hostel, helping to install the permanent renewable energy source; and;
- at a Coffee & Cacao Farm, giving tours in English.

I enjoy helping others and working as part of a team to overcome hurdles and achieve goals. I am eager to try something different, learn new skills, and experience other ways of living.
