Beschreibung

Hello all! My name is Magec. I work as technical translator (at a desk, in an office), but I also like collaborating in different friends´ organic farming projects on my island Gran Canaria and have now registered to give it a go at Workaway in Ireland.

Helping can be a pleasure just for the sake of it. But I find helping at rural farms / life projects especially rewarding, all the better if they have a sustainable approach. Surely because of all the knowledge and skills that one gets to acquire (and we all city people should). And maybe because I grew up partly on the countryside, with goats and hens around :-)

Why am I especially interested in volunteering in Ireland? Having worked many years with just German and Spanish (and mainly technical stuff), I´ve now set out to reactivate my (rather dormant) English. But I definitely want back the (mixed) Irish accent I once had after studying 9 months in Belfast and working 2 on Inishmore (at the former Old Courthouse Café). And I´m also looking forward to reconnecting with Irish people, their culture and their history, which I grew very fond of.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I've got a basic knowledge of organic farming (clearing brambles, preparing the soil, installing irrigation systems, thinning out plants, weeding, spreading manure and so on).

I've made a few pieces of furniture from pallets, all very stable and some quite elegant. I enjoy woodworking and am keen to learn more.

I like cooking and do it for others with pleasure.

I have lived in shared accommodation many times. I know how to share, respect and give space to others. I can be completely independent in my free time if needed (can go hiking, running, visit "old stones", or read/study if at home).

I've played (and coached) a lot of indoor and beach volleyball, can windsurf and am now trying sea kayaking and trail running.

I have a passion for teaching Spanish and some experience of it (including a German high school and some university and grassroots initiatives to help African people arriving in our islands).

Not much experience taking care of children, but every time I did it we all had much fun.
