I’m a student from Prague at Charles University with a passion for stories, cultures, and stepping out of my comfort zone. I love the creative world of marketing, but I’m just as happy diving into something completely new

I have experience running social media and working in a local newsroom, so I’m always happy to help out with content or your digital presentation. I also hold a DofE Bronze Award and genuinely love trying new things, even if they are way out of my usual comfort zone. Through the Rotary Club, I’ve traveled quite a bit and enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds. Back home, I’m usually the go-to "tour guide" for my foreign friends, so I'm always down for a good chat and a cultural exchange :))

Honestly, I’m just looking to explore the world through the eyes of locals, help out where I can, and learn something new ✿

I’m a marketing student, so my main skills revolve around communication, creativity, and digital media. I have practical experience running social media accounts and working in a local newsroom, which means I’m comfortable with creating content, and helping out with any digital or online tasks you might need.

Beyond the digital stuff, I’m very practical and used to helping around the house. I grew up spending a lot of time with my grandparents in the mountains, so I'm used to fresh air, outdoor activities, and hands-on help. I also have two younger sisters—and basically raised one of them—so I’m very comfortable around kids and happy to help with childcare.

Through the Rotary Club, I’ve traveled and learned how to communicate with people from all kinds of cultural backgrounds. I also hold a DofE Bronze Award, which shows I'm resilient and not afraid of a challenge or physical work. Whether you need a hand with creative projects, household chores, looking after kids, or daily tasks, I’m proactive, quick to learn, and happy to help.

vom Host (Bring to life 1910 railway ...) für Workawayer ()

Maggie originally explained that she would stay for a week, as her volunteering in Denmark had been cancelled. However, on her first day of work she announced that she would only be staying for four days, as her travel plans for her way back home had changed. I saw her stay as being a little more touristic than practical.

We changed the days off … read more to fit her schedule, which the other volunteers agreed to. Maggie was extremely alarmed by the cobwebs in her living area; however, the previous occupants had had no problems with them. As a result, we started the Workaway with volunteers cleaning the living and sleeping spaces within the station. Other jobs included cleaning the platform and kitchen area, helping to move and sort things from the container, and planting some plants. She worked alongside volunteers from Germany and Ireland.

On her arrival, the volunteer from Ireland encouraged Maggie to go to Prague for a night out. During Maggie’s stay, the same volunteer also initiated a number of heated discussions concerning AI, housing as a human right, and Israel. Given that the station hosts a Yad Vashem exhibition, some of these discussions created a fair amount of tension within the group. Unfortunately, Maggie was left in a situation where she was almost forced to become an adjudicator between differing perspectives, which I was very upset about.

Maggie is from the Czech Republic, and during her stay I spoke critically about some of my experiences with the local municipality and administration, which have created a number of obstacles for this project that I do not believe have been applied equally to neighbouring projects and businesses. I accept that I was not always particularly polite in the way I expressed my frustration with the local administration.

On her last day, Maggie explained that she was upset by hearing what she regarded as negative comments about her country. She described herself as a proud Czech national. She felt that the difficulties surrounding my project were specific to my own situation and did not agree with my view that some of the issues may be systemic. I saw my comments as criticism of institutions and my own experiences with them, rather than criticism of Czech people or of Maggie personally. We ultimately had different perspectives on this, and she found the way I expressed my concerns offensive. My thoughts are that freedom of speech sometimes means hearing things that are not necessarily comfortable to the ears. I recognise that freedom of expression also means that people will sometimes strongly disagree with how those views are expressed.
