Beschreibung
Starting 2025 with a two-months-trip to New Zealand! After hanging with my cousins for the first weeks - she is a potter in Nelson - I am curious to travel around the South Island by myself. I am looking forward to some nice encounters and new experiences through workaway.

I have travelled to a lot of countries, I have even lived abroad and I get in touch with new people easily. I don't mind being alone sometimes and I enjoy company a lot, too. Back home, I live in a shared flat with 7 roomies.

I love to go hiking or cycle the whole day long. My friends say that I am a fun, talkative person who is also a good listener.

Until last December 2024, I have worked in academy and will most probably get back to it after this short break in New Zealand. I am uber-excited for this trip!

I am a talkative, friendly, multi-lingual person who is eager to help out in your garden, with tourists, with translations... I don't mind doing cleaning work or whatever is needes. I am not the most talented DIY person but I learn quickly, have creative ideas and I can use a drilling machine.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join us in our ecovillage in ...)

For one week, I was part of the lovely eco village! Who would have thought that one day I would be cutting grass with a brushcutter, tackling huge flax plants or enjoying the work we had done around a big campfire every evening? It's wonderful you had faith in my little-known talents. It was a pleasure!

vom Host (Join us in our ecovillage in ...) für Workawayer ()

Lydia is a top notch WorkAwayer. She stayed with us at the ecovillage for a week and in that time we did many tasks-- weeding, cooking, cleaning, clearing debris from flax bushes, mulching, weedeating, and odd jobs. Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help at our property in the ...)

I spent 3 wonderful weeks at Ro & Peter's shaggy maggy maison (actually even a chateau!). I had such a wonderful, relaxing and inspiring time. Ro and Peter made me feel at home the whole time. Une vraie famille d'accueil!!!

Working:
I mainly worked in the garden which is lovely in the morning and too hot in the afternoon. That is why I worked in… read more the morning and took my time off in the afternoon. Ro told us how she wanted things to be - and always asked for our ideas and was super happy about our (creative) results. She always made sure we didn't work too much and would choose task we wanted to do. So, gardening was a big part in the first week (weeding, repearing things, buildung a scare crow, taking care of the green room - check the pictures). I finally passed my wheelbarrow-driving-licence. ;) The other week Becky and me were building a yoga plattform. It was nice to work with wood, drilling maschine, saws etc. We also thought of the construction plan on our own, so it was a nice mixture of creative and physical work. We couldn't finish our ambitious project, so you are welcome to finish :)! I am still suprised what I and my co-volunteers have achieved in a short period of time. It is a place to be creative, do some nice work outside always according to your abilities.

Not working:
I loved spending my time in the afternoons in the garden reading, writing, doing yoga and walking around the little village (You have to go to the backery!!!) and the surroundings.
There is a good wifi-connection and a huge collection of DVDs. THE FOOD IS AMAZING!!! Breakfast, lunch, dinner - everything was just perfectly delicious (veggie food and sometimes fish). We spend the evenings watching movies, drinking (rhubarb) gin tonic and (the last of the summer) wine. I spend hours chatting with Ro and Peter. They got stories to tell, and it is inspiring to listen to them. On the weekends we went to some fleemarkets, so we could see a bit of the other villages and speak some French.

Getting there & around:
It is not a big hustle to get there. I took a TGV from Paris and then the Bus going to Saulieu (The driver didn't announce the stops so I carefully looked out the window until I saw the sign saying "Saulieu". It is the only stop in that city). Public transport is not super good in the region, so if you want to go to the lakes you need a car. So instead of going somewhere every afternoon, I took four days off to go to a festival about 100km away. I mangaged that trip pretty well with the few busses available, blablacar and hitchhiking.

Thank you, Rowena and Peter, for everything. I will always remember this summer in the middle of nowhere in France.

What can I say? Lydia is fabulous - a born leader and a real ideas machine! This last week she was joined by Becky and together they created a pallet yoga platform - it really gave me so much pleasure to host my very own Charlie's Angels!!! Come again any time Lydia!

Such an inspiring and relaxing spot! My first workaway experience was very short, but pretty intensense. If you like to work on this beautiful island with a group of international volunteers, try it out! Thanks a lot, Gregor, for having me!
