Hi there! :)
My name is Laura, I am 24 years old and currently (March 2024) travelling Thailand. My home is in Berlin but want to explore the whole world! After graduation (Abitur) in 2018 I saved some money and traveled to Ireland in 2019 to live and work there for 6 months. In the beginning of 2020 I wanted to continue travelling and went to Sweden for 6 weeks but due to the Pandemic I had to quit. The next three years I worked as a social worker at schools to help include children with learning disabilities like ADHD and studied film production in Cologne.
Even though I did not travel quite as far or as long as I intended at that time, I learned many useful things, like taking care of animals, children and the household while also sharing the work fair. The experiences that I have made there were all thanks to workaway, which I’m grateful for. Here in Thailand I have only stayed as a tourist and met mostly other tourists, which was also nice but I am looking to immerse myself more in the actual thai culture! I hope to find somebody to host me for my last two weeks here and exchange cultural experiences :)

Was könntest du arbeiten?
I worked as a babysitter and volunteered in a Kindergarten and in church, so I have experience in working with children between the ages from three to thirteen. When I was in Ireland, I also took care of a five, two and a half year old, and a nine month old child.
I went horse riding for six years and worked on a stud farm while I was in Ireland. On a different farm I took care of not only horses, dogs and cats, but also goats, sheep, cows and chicken.
From my time working as a waitress, I learned how to handle guests and always stay calm and friendly, even in stressful situations.
I also can draw and paint, though that's something I usually only do in my free time, I'd be interested to use those skills in a new environment

I consider myself a very open-minded person, who tries their best to stay positive, learn as much as possible from my own, and other people's experiences and see what else this world has to offer.

Vom Workawayer (Laura) für Host (Permaculture farm with ...)

This was my third workaway experience and, so far, the best one I have had, especially regarding the type and amount of work I had to do. I stayed with Emilia and Eric in January and February this year and I’m so sorry it took me half a year to manage writing this review. Time really does fly by :D
While I was at the farm a few different people… read more stayed and worked with us, most via workaway, like me, an Italian man, someone from Argentina, a French girl and three other girls from Germany. People also visited for spiritual purposes, which was very interesting as well and I’m grateful for the diverse cultural exchange. Sohil for example would be there on the weekends, which is not only helpful because we had an extra pair of hands to cuddle the cows but mostly because he was one of the nicest, most genuine and peaceful people I ever got to meet.
Life on the farm is work, obviously. There is always something going on, always a new project one could start with, but I think that nobody felt overwhelmed by the work. I really appreciate that we shared it and they did their very best to find a job that fits one’s skills. Though if you were not comfortable to keep doing a specific task nobody is going to make you do anything; you just have to speak up and say what you feel. Thanks to their daughter Nadia I also learned how to make better plans for myself and how to organise a lot of tasks like we did on the neat whiteboard.
The animals are all well behaved and very friendly. They receive as much love and appreciation as they deserve and are taken good care of. I loved spending my time with them, and felt very comfortable to do so since Em was so trusting and always happy to talk about what was important to her when handling them. She also trusted me with her painting supplies, so the others and I could share our creativity and paint together, which really meant a lot to me.
You also get great possibilities to educate yourself and learn about plants from Emilia or discuss and share beliefs about the Bhagavad Gita with Eric. Because of their beliefs the food is vegan and made without onions, garlic or mushrooms, though there’s always more than enough for everyone and cooking, at least to me, was always exciting and a new challenge to try something different.
Overall I am very happy to have had the opportunity to live with and learn from such a diverse group of people and I am so grateful to Em and Eric to make these experiences possible. I was able to learn a lot about myself, rediscover values I share with much more people than I would’ve expected and, simply put, tried living a new way of life. I actually wanted to come back already during the summer but thanks to recent events I guess that will have to wait a little longer. Though, sooner or later, I most definitely will come back again.
