We're Kyle and Cat! A married couple in our early 30's :) For the last 10 or so years, we have been working as theatre professionals all over the USA. We met in 2017 as actors in a professional production of "Newsies," and the rest was history!

Cat is also a Personal Trainer, fitness instructor, and yoga teacher driven by a deep desire to teach people how to live full, healthy, and active lives. Kyle does most of the behind-the-scenes work for our travel vlog, KyleCaughtaCat (launching December 2024!), as both the director and editor.

In 2022, we decided to start laying a foundation to become full-time travel vloggers. We wanted to see the world, expand our paradigms, meet incredible people, and see what else there was to experience out of this life. We're on a mission to prove that travel doesn't have to be expensive or complicated, and that the best of life often exists in the simplest and most spontaneous moments.

We can't wait to meet you and experience all this world has to offer together!

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help with natural ...)

Our time at Paulo and Nimea’s embodied everything Workaway should be: cultural exchange, learning, meeting people from around the world, getting immersed in cultures that differ from your own... while it wasn’t always the most comfortable, we will look back at our time here so fondly.

The accommodation varies and your experience will probably be… read more impacted by where you end up sleeping. The camper van and caravan have heat and potentially access to the wifi (depends on where the router is placed), but the tent, which is a little farther away, does not. If you work remotely, it would definitely be easier in the caravan or camper, if only for a table in a private space. We were staying in the tent which did make for some very cold nights and was a little scary during some of the storms (though storms are definitely not typical for the area!) That said, for a tent, it was quite roomy and comfortable (and had beds!), so it really depends on what experience you’re looking for!

We spent 2 weeks here towards the end of March. There were so many cool projects in progress, we’d love to return and check in on them in the future! I can tell already that every workawayer’s experience will be impacted by the projects being worked on in real time (they were building a common room while we were there that will likely be done in a few weeks—that will definitely make the cooking/eating/working a little more comfortable!) The food provided was vegetarian —meat, spices, peanut butter, and a few other things were not provided. So most of us ended up buying a few groceries for ourselves to round out meals while there.

We worked 9am-1pm every day, with a 20ish minute break around 11am. At the beginning of the week, Nimea would meet with us to discuss the projects that needed to be done during the week and write them in “time blocks” on a blackboard in the shared kitchen, then everybody would delegate those tasks to themselves and each other. One person would make lunch for everyone each day (they’d stop work an hour early to do this) and it was one of my favorite things about working here. Food is such an integral part of culture and getting to try meals crafted by different people from around the world every day was lovely.

Communication was awesome and Paulo and Nimea were super open to working with us for an altered work schedule when we asked (I needed to pick up a rental car one morning, so I just made up that work time in the afternoon, they were totally cool with that). They even gave us rides into town a couple times when they were available! It’s very evident that they’re passionate about this work and have a personal investment in the people they invite to their property.

All in all, we have such fond memories of our time in Aljezur and made friends that we’ll keep in contact with for years to come! We’re even talking about a Workaway reunion in the autumn. If you’re looking for a WorkAway with beautiful people and country, this is the one for you 😊

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help at our idyllic rural ...)

We loved our time at this place and have so many fond memories of our time there! We spent 3 weeks here helping with multiple events.

The work here is highly dependent upon the events occurring at the venue. Because of this, we did not work the typical WorkAway 4-5hours a day/5 days a week. Instead it was generally 2 very long days (like the… read more wedding days themselves) and 1-2 additional shorter days. They were also very flexible and accommodating with those hours and were personally invested in making sure we enjoyed our time both on and off property. This meant your work days were very tiring, but you had a lot more "open" days to explore the area during the week!

We didn't always know exactly what hours we'd be working on what days, it was more decided the night before on a "as needed" basis, so mentally prepare for a little "looser" schedule. At first this was a bit disorienting as we're so used to super defined work schedules and expectations, but we got used to it.

The work itself was highly varied. We both have experience in design, so we were often given creative license to help curate a space for an event or build floral pieces. For example, "we need to create a table layout for a 30th birthday party for a new dad. We want darker colors, some dried flowers... here's where you can find runners, here's the containers of vases, WhatsApp me with any questions!" We also helped in the kitchen quite a bit, cleaned, and did some odd jobs like steaming table cloths or washing windows. If you're looking for a place where the work day changes quite a bit, then this is a perfect Workaway for you.

Generally we stayed in guest houses on or around the property. It was private and comfortable and usually had wifi (we both have remote jobs, so that was important). We moved a couple times as needed for events (people renting out the cottages on property for a wedding, etc) but it was always pretty straightforward and we didn't mind!

We loved the people: Lirie was always checking in on us and really invested in how we were doing. Anja was the head chef and we learned a lot from her, Leah was the sous chef and was so generous with her time and teaching us how to do things. I felt like we walked away with friendships, and that is such a gift. I was really impressed at how well jobs were delegated--the whole place ran like a well oiled machine.

Overall, we really enjoyed our time and walked away with memories we'll keep forever. If you get the chance, I highly recommend working here --it was a perfect first WorkAway experience and we would do it again!
