[About us]
We are Kame and Masako, a Japanese couple currently travelling around the world together.
What matters most to us when we travel is not so much where we have been, but who we have met and what kind of time we have shared together.
Rather than simply seeing a place from the outside as tourists, we love meeting people who live there and experiencing a little of their everyday life.
Working together, cooking, sharing meals and conversations — these simple moments are often the most meaningful part of our journey.
Through them, we hope to learn not only about different cultures, but also about people's roots, families, values and ways of life. At the same time, meeting people who live differently helps us reflect on our own values and on the kind of life we would like to create in the future.
For us, Workaway is not simply an exchange of work for accommodation. We hope to share experiences, learn from each other and build relationships that remain meaningful even after our stay.
During our travels, we have also been exploring ways of creating things together with the people we meet, through conversations about our different backgrounds and values. We value not only what is created at the end, but also the conversations, discoveries and changes that happen along the way.
Sometimes our stays may be relatively short, but while we are there, we don't want to be just guests. We would like to participate as part of the household or community, contribute where we can, and respect the rhythm of life and the things that matter to our hosts.
[Kame profile]
Kame has worked in many different fields, including carpentry, restaurants, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, guesthouse management and event planning.
He loves local culture and music, and especially enjoys experiencing everyday life in a place — not only understanding it intellectually, but really feeling it through people, food, work and daily routines.
When connecting with people, he prefers to take time to understand what is important to them and to share experiences in a genuine and thoughtful way. -

Was könntest du arbeiten?
We are interested in helping with a wide range of things, from everyday household tasks to farming, gardening, winemaking and DIY.
We are comfortable meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds, and we try to build relationships by first understanding what matters to the people around us.
Rather than focusing only on what we want to do, we enjoy understanding what our hosts are trying to create and finding ways to contribute to it together.
Cooking
We both enjoy cooking for ourselves and for other people. We have also organised events in the past and enjoy bringing people together around food. We can prepare simple Japanese dishes using locally available ingredients.
Cleaning & household tasks
We are both comfortable with everyday cleaning and household work. Kame also spent ten years in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, so keeping shared spaces clean and organised comes naturally to him.
Farming & gardening
We are interested in eventually incorporating some form of farming and food growing into our own lives. Kame previously helped at a natural farming project on weekends.
DIY & tools
Kame has around one year of professional carpentry experience. Before starting this journey, he also ran a guesthouse that he had renovated through DIY.
Hospitality & guest support
Both of us have worked with many different kinds of people through our careers. Kame has experience running a guesthouse and organising events, while Masako has many years of experience working with people through marketing and coaching.
Children
Kame has organised workshops for children. Masako also enjoys spending time with children and tends to connect with them naturally.
Animals
We haven't had our own pets, but we have spent time with dogs and cats at friends' homes and are comfortable around animals.
Photography & video
Kame mainly takes photos and videos with his phone and has received an award in a regional video competition in Japan. He especially enjoys documenting everyday life and the atmosphere of a place rather than only taking typical travel photos.
Social media, design & computer work
We are not specialists, but we both have basic experience with social media, simple design and computer-based work.
Other skills
As a certified systems coach, Masako has experience working with teams and relationships, using dialogue to help people explore how they want to work, live and relate together. -

[What we want to learn]
Through Workaway, we are especially interested in experiencing:
Life connected to the ocean and surfing
Small-scale farming and gardening
Vineyards and winemaking
Cooking and local food culture
DIY and making things by hand
Ways of living more closely with nature
We are interested not only in learning practical skills, but also in understanding why people have chosen a particular way of life or work, and what they value within it.
We are also curious about the everyday wisdom found in families and local communities — how people support one another, share responsibilities and live together.
When we don't have experience in something, we don't want to pretend that we do. We are happy to start from the beginning, listen, learn and get our hands dirty.
[Travel / Cultural experience]
Together we have travelled through many parts of Japan, Latin America and Africa.
Rather than experiencing places only as tourists, we try to spend time with the people we meet and have conversations about their culture, roots, families and values.
In Japan and during our travels, we have also collaborated with artists and other people we meet, exploring ideas and forms of expression through dialogue.
We believe that when people with different backgrounds meet, something new can emerge — new perspectives, new possibilities, and sometimes a shared vision of a future that neither person could have imagined alone. -
