Hello!

I am Juan, also known as Juancho. I was born and raised in Chile, but I made the life-changing decision to move to Costa Rica, a country where I found true happiness. In recent years, I have embarked on an incredible journey traveling the world, exploring different continents.

My travels have allowed me to adopt a simple and outdoor lifestyle, visit breathtaking places, immerse myself in diverse cultures, and meet amazing people. I prioritize maintaining good physical and mental health, I do not consume drugs, alcohol, or smoke, I enjoy trying local food, and I believe I can easily adapt to new circumstances. I still savor every moment and hope this journey continues for a long time.

I have had some incredible experiences, from working on an avocado farm in Hawaii, to helping at-risk children in Central America, migrants, and people with special needs. I have also worked in hostels, done gardening and maintenance in Mexico, the United States (including Alaska), Canada, Vietnam, Laos, India, and Turkey. From rebuilding homes to painting and agricultural work, I have done it all!

And now I am embarking on a new adventure. I am returning to Workaway and crossing the Atlantic Ocean by boat to explore Europe and Asia. I am more than excited for what lies ahead.

- Experience with children:

I love working and spending time with children. I used to work as a Physical Education Teacher in primary and secondary school, also as a tennis, soccer and swimming instructor. (As I mentioned earlier, having a knee injury today I can only practice low-impact sports, willing to teach my knowledge).

I was able to assist migrant children in their journeys through Central America and Mexico to the United States ( therapy with horses ).

Sow, plant, harvest and process different varieties of vegetables (cucumbers, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes among others). Harvest bananas, cocoa, avocados.

Ease of video editing, photo editing.

Ability to drive different types of vehicles, cars, motorcycles, even heavy-duty machines (I performed some functions where I had to maneuver trucks and climbing machines for a couple of months).

My priority when I travel is to be surrounded by good people, I feel good outdoors, I enjoy not falling into monotony (beach, then mountains, big city too... In company, then enjoying a moment with more privacy).

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Share cultures and experience ...)

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who works and participates in the horse ranch in Cappadocia, Turkey. I want to highlight the good intentions of each of them (even though there were some initial differences).Volunteering at the ranch allows you to experience local life while also enjoying the beautiful tourist attractions in the… read more area.

>>Daria, the permanent volunteer, is in charge of keeping in touch with the volunteers. She is always willing to offer alternatives and make sure you feel comfortable, even though her time is limited due to other activities outside the ranch.>>Burhan, the permanent worker, has a lot of experience with horses and is very calm and friendly.>>Hasan and his family are the owners of the ranch. He oversees many of the activities and was respectful and understood some of my requests after the first few nights so I could rest better, which I appreciate.>>Ramazam also helps at the ranch. He is also calm and always smiling, which is a pleasure.

There were some initial differences that I attribute to cultural differences. We talked about it and, as the days went by, we managed to avoid them happening again. The guys made an effort not to make me uncomfortable (for example, not smoking indoors when I was present, providing me with a smoke-free place to rest and sleep, and respecting sleep schedules).

The main help involves assisting with horseback excursions for tourists, but there are many ways to collaborate at the ranch. I think the assignment of tasks to volunteers could be structured differently so that the volunteer is clear about the tasks they can fulfill, benefiting the ranch more and ensuring that both parties feel there is a fair exchange.

After a few days, I started feeling a strong pain in my back, which limited my activities. I never felt pressured by any of them despite my physical limitations (I hope I met expectations in terms of how I could collaborate).

The cave house located on the ranch in Goreme seems ideal if it can be adapted for volunteers to stay there. For example, it would allow them to easily move around in their free time. It has a bathroom and a kitchen, allowing volunteers to cook their own meals (taking this responsibility off the other workers at the place).

Overall, I can recommend to everyone visiting this area to participate in the activities at the ranch. If you are willing to help out, understand that it's not a hotel, don't mind having horse hair around you, living in a cave house, and understand that ranch life is different from life in other places. I wish you all the best in the future and hope to stay in touch and come back at some point to visit. Pura vida!

Juan stayed at my place for one week. He is very well skilled and talented. I often didn't say anything, he just observed what was doing and then he did the same way very well. He likes calm, silent and peaceful places. We did fruit tree grafting, garden cleaning and spent two days as shepherds.
