I'm new to the workaway platform! I've been travelling with helpx for years - references below - but the helpx network is somewhat limited in canada

I'm originally from the UK, and I spent the covid years cruising around Australia and discovering my love of farmwork, small towns, and the outback :) I'm out of Australian visas, so landed in Canada in March 2024, since the UK doesn't really speak to my love of wide open spaces.

I really enjoy being outdoors all day, regardless of the work & weather. I'm fit, don't smoke, and will eat just about anything - though don't eat much meat when cooking for myself. I love people and animals, and in my spare time I'm usually hiking or biking.

I prefer to get some sense of community from a helpx, rather than a pure exchange of labour kind of vibe. I believe human connection is the most important thing in life and try to centre it always.

I've worked all kinds of seasonal jobs and have a little bit of knowhow about a lot of things.

-Gondola ops
-Houseperson in a 4* hotel
-Fencing
-Tree planting
-Geophysical survey field tech
-Grain yard labour, 4x seasons. Poked around with loaders and telehandlers a bit, can kinda back up a semi truck. pretty good with a shovel, angle grinder, tec drill, impact driver, small engines
-Bale grab forklift operator, cotton season
-Mahogany falling chainsaw crew, pristine chaps
-Cellarhand, vintage season (wine making)
-Landscaping labourer; bushfire recovery and prevention works
-Pack shed (and some picking, weeding, fertilising, planting) at mixed crop organics farm
-Hop harvest - truck and trailer driving; bine wrangling
-Walnut harvest and processing
-Nursery stocktake
-Heaps of hand tool experience on conservation and trailbuilding projects - can swing a pulaski
-Dairy farm hand, NZ: mostly fencing, plus odd jobs and a little mustering, tagging & drying off cattle - can ride a 4wheeler and a dirt bike
-Customer assistant at a cinema
-Apiarist assistant
-Admin at a doctor's surgery
-Warehouse work, mail handling

Other stuff:
- BA Political Science & Geography from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) / UC Berkeley (US)
- Class 5 BC license, can drive manual
- Recently EMR certified (not yet licensed)
-S100 / S185 basic wildfire training
- Excellent general computer skills
- I love organising stuff! so if you have a shed that needs clearing out I'm game

Izzy is a quietly confident young woman with some serious problem-solving skills! She took on projects that were daunting for many, solved them, worked thoroughly, and the next thing I knew, they were done and done superbly. Izzy is admirable in that fear and being a woman travelling alone doesn't define her; she overcomes it. Somehow, it becomes a challenge and encourages her to take life on without its limitations and with an enthusiasm so uncommon. I was impressed by that confidence, I couldn't do what she does. Izzy got along with everyone, and her stay with us was too short. I truly hope to see her again and have her stay a lot longer. So, in closing, I recommend her as a guest, and you will be as honoured as I was by her contributions.

Isobel is a bright light! Talk about a kind, capable, intelligent, diligent girl with a strong suit of perseverance. We really enjoyed our time together, Izzie has a love of learning, an art for listening, a "get er done" attitude oddly juxtaposed with an easy going aura. She showed a penchant for fairness and compassion wrapped in a clever sense of humor. With Isobel's support we were able to make a substantial dent in our long and varied "to do" list. We feel that she is a bit of a maveric with an inner confidence and conviction to being an extremely competent worker bee!
It is safe to say that no matter what you need accomplished, you will be pleased that you hosted Isobel, if you are really lucky she will make her Mom's
Mac & Cheese for you! Her best advice is to just "Do the next thing".

Izzie, is a great person to have around, pity her stay was so short. She will always be welcome back, hopefully for longer next time.
BTW, she is a great cook!! She is not fazed by "Plant Based Ingredients" and turned out some tasty food.

We really enjoyed having Izzie stay with us. She was very low maintenance - so low that we worried. She was relaxed and easygoing and a self starter working on her own when she needed to. She completed all work to a high degree asking questions if there was something she did not understand. She cut and split firewood, painted timber, sprayed and pulled weeds and helped build two biochar production burners. She was interesting to talk to and considered in her words.
She left her accommodation in a very clean state. She is welcome back anytime. Happy and (not tooooo safe) travels Izzie.

It was a pleasure to host Isobel for a week. Previous generous recommendations are spot-on. Isobel washed all the walls with mould inhibitor and weeded. Her care, attention to detail and thoroughness were especially appreciated. We enjoyed her very easy and interesting conversation and company.

Isobel stayed with me for a week and I highly recommend her to future hosts. She is a vibrant, intelligent, highly motivated person who works to her own high standards. She stayed around to complete a painting task on the morning of her departure. Nothing is too much trouble and I am grateful to have been able to host her. No one will be disappointed if they do the same.

Isobel was an absolute joy to host, no job was too hard or boring for her. She was a tremendous help in the garden and a very energetic and intelligent helper. She was also brilliant in the kitchen and made an amazing Tarte Tatin which was super delicious. Isobel made the most of exploring the local attractions and I was sorry to see her leave and she is welcomed back anytime. Any host would be extremely lucky to have her.
Isobel you did a great job in the garden and the lawns still look great...thank you. I wish you all the very best with your travels around Australia and finding paid work for your second year visa.

Isobel was only with me for a week unfortunately. I would have liked her to have been here all summer. Isobel is a great worker.
Always ready to take on any task. She is great company, cheerful,
intelligent, motivated, skilled and strong. I very much hope that she returns to visit one day. Any host would be lucky to have her.
