Hi! My name is Ingelin, and I am a 28-year-old Norwegian who loves meeting new people and immerse myself in new cultures. I have previously lived in Kenya for 6 months and the United States for 5 months, and I have noticed how being a part of an international environment is what truly makes me come alive.
I would describe myself as a positive, adventurous, and open-minded person who is always interested in learning new skills. I am also a deep thinker and a creative soul - there are few things I love more than thoughtful conversations over a cup of coffee☕️ In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, crocheting and going on hikes. I live on a small farm that has been in the family for over 500 years, and my vision is to live a simple yet rich life in harmony with nature.
Through Workaway, I hope to foster deep connections with people from all over the world, challenge myself, be a resource and light to everyone I meet, and follow my dream of exploring the world in a deeply meaningful way.

- Certified upper-secondary and high school teacher (ages 13-19) in English and history with a master's degree in English literature. 3 years of teaching experience.
- Certified in basic first aid by the Red Cross.
- I live on a small farm with 11 chickens and a cat, so I have experience with animals and basic gardening/farm tending.
- Volunteered at an orphanage, after-school activities for children, and student churches during my stay in Kenya.
- Practical experience with small-scale renovation and maintenance work (such as painting, sanding, etc.).
- Enjoy cooking

I am a fast learner and a hard worker, so I would say I am versatile and can be helpful with a variety of tasks :)

It was great to have her with us, very proficient and proactive. Always ready to help others, very patient too. Everyone enjoyed her company, staff and guests.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join our charity and enjoy ...)

I spent a month at the Youth Hostel, and I had such an amazing time!

The staff - Fatima, Anna and Martaa - are simply amazing people who made me feel so welcome and well taken care of <3 Great conversations and daily laughs are guaranteed :) (heee heee)

The work was very fair - 3 hours a day (10-13) for 5 days a week, meaning you’ll have a lot … read more of free time during your stay. The work mostly consisted of cleaning the guest rooms and common areas. While I was there, we also set up and decorated the glamping tents + did some weeding, all very enjoyable work.

The living conditions were good, you’ll share a room and bathroom with up to 5 other volunteers (girls/boys seperate) + kitchen/dining room/tv-room all together (including guests).

The surrounding area was just stunning! The view from the hostel is simply breathtaking, and there are lots of beautiful hikes ranging from slow walks along the river to hilltops with a panorama view. If you are a nature lover and enjoy hikes, this is the place for you :)

The hostel is close to a small village named Enniskerry + Bray and Dublin - all places with lots of things to do!

Useful notes/recommendations:
- If you are not travelling with a car, the walk from the nearest bus stop to the hostel is about 35 minutes. Good to keep in mind if you’re bringing a lot of luggage, but it is possible to get a taxi from Bray/Enniskerry.
- When using public transport in Ireland, the most practical form or payment is something called a Leapcard. You’ll be able to acquire one after arriving, but for the first day of travelling if you go by bus from Bray, bring 2-3 euros in coins (1-2 euro coins + cents) so that you can pay for the bus (they don’t accept card or change, you need the exact amount in coins, about 2,60 euros).
- Bring a rain jacket! The weather changes a lot.
- I recommend bringing a pair of slippers/flipflops to wear inside and for walking between the different buildings. I wore mine so much that Fatima had to spare me a needle to keep them from falling apart in the final week hehe
- If possible, bring a few groceries for the first day (lunch/dinner). There is usually some free food left by guests/previous volunteers, but it is good to be on the safe side as a trip to the grocery store will take up most of your afternoon.

All in all, this Workaway was everything I hoped for and a difficult one to leave. I am grateful for all the people I met who made my stay one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had so far <3

Having Ingelin with us for three weeks was a positive experience. She is mature and responsible, silent and respectful, and open and ready to help with everything. We were happy to have we with us and we would recommend the experience.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Discover a simple life around ...)

I came here because I wanted to experience something new and totally different, and to be in an environment that encouraged deepening one’s relationship with God.

I spent 3 wonderful weeks there, and I would highly recommend this experience to anyone curious about consecrated life and the Catholic faith - or if you’re simply longing for a quiet, … read more peaceful experience filled with love and kindness away from the noise of the outside world :)

The sisters made me feel welcomed from the very moment I arrived, and sister Marthe Rachel in particular made sure that I was well-informed and comfortable throughout my stay. She always took the time to answer my questions, and she is an excellent translator! I appreciate how she and the other sisters went out of their ways to ensure that I felt included.

The work:
- The work is very varied, and it is largely dependent on the season/weather. Since it was sunny during my stay, I mostly worked in the garden - which was lovely! Other tasks included cleaning, organizing some storages outside, and helping the sisters with their handmade products.
- I worked 5 hours a day, and was free to distribute the hours myself (I usually did 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon, depending on the tasks)
- There are no expectations to participate in the sisters daily schedules of prayer, mass etc., but one is always welcome to! And if one does, the sisters are happy to explain, translate, and accommodate.

Food:
- I was served lunch and dinner every day, and the meals are varied, healthy and made from scratch - I ate well every single day and enjoyed every meal.

Some practical tips:
- I recommend bringing a warm sweater (regardless of the season) - the long hallways on the ground floor can be chilly
- Slippers to wear inside
- Clothes and shoes suited for gardenwork that are easy to clean (for example rubber boots + rainwear)
- There is a room with wifi in the basement, but otherwise you need data

Note:
- If you happen to be the only Workawayer during your stay, be prepared to spend a lot of time by yourself (the sisters are quite busy throughout the day). I feel like I got the best of both worlds as I spent the first two weeks alone and the last week with 3 other Workawayers. If you happen to be the only Workawayer for your entire stay or parts of it, I recommend seeing it as an opportunity for introspection, self-discovery and growth :)

Thank you so much sisters, this has been an unforgettable experience with a lasting impact - I hope to come back some time!
