Hi!

I'm Géza, a Hungarian slow traveler! Slow travel means that I usually prefer staying at least 1 month, experiencing the culture, getting to know people and living like a local among them. I signed up for Workaway since it aligns with my values and I would like to contribute to the world by helping out other human and animal fellows! :)

Fist of all: I'm a kind person, calm, respectful, open-minded. Being aware that we all live on a pale blue dot called Earth, I simply appreciate the chance to exist and share some time with others. I value emotional intelligence, interacting with people where we can listen and strive for a mutual win. Meeting halfway and achieving something more together, isn't that nice?

I have been traveling as a nomad for the last 3 years, finding my feet in different places and circumstances is natural for me. I'm resourceful, attentive to details and creative, so I learn things easily and can adapt to different situations.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Digital illustration is my main occupation, I have experience in photography, filming and writing as well; be it any art or DIY project, I'm definitely interested in!

I also enjoy getting out of my head though and doing physical work!
I have experience with house renovation works, painting (painted a 80m2 house together with my brother, from preparations all the way to finish), small reparations, building furniture, deep cleaning, moving. I do household chores well, cleaning, washing dishes, washing clothes, doing groceries, etc.
I have experience in gardening (digging, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting), wood chopping.
After being given instructions I'm great at working independently and in the meantime I don't hesitate to figure out things on my own. Since my dad is a handyman, I can always call him and easily ask for his advice too!

I love spending time with children and have lots of patience for them. :)
I have been taking care of my two nieces (now 5 and 9 years old) ever since they were toddlers, even for weeks at a time. By now I'm not just an uncle, but a bit like a second father figure to them. During those occasions I'm taking them to kindergarten / school and back home, prepare meals, help with learning and homework, go out for walks or to a playground. We love to do creative activities together that are fun and help developing skills at the same time: drawing, making a puppet theater, building cardboard houses, solving puzzles, etc. I know that raising kids is not just play though, paying attention to healthy rules is important as well, like eating healthy and on time, brushing teeth, doing small chores fitting their age. I found that when done with care and patience, discipline gives a good and needed structure to their day.

Ever since a kid I have loved cats and had 4 while growing up. In the last years I had the following experiences with catsitting and housesitting:
- in 2021 I took care of Missy for 7 weeks in Budapest, Hungary. I even made a short movie starring her as a surprise gift for her owner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFFBA-WLpBk
- in 2022, 2023 and 2024 I took care of Señor for multiple weeks in Alicante, Spain. I became the only person that he trusts enough to sit and sleep in my lap - may be my biggest achievement ever. :')
- in 2024 I took care of Viola for 6 weeks in Antwerp, Belgium.
These occasions all included feeding, brushing their fur, playing, cleaning their litter box, all in all following the routine their owners shared. I always consider the personality of the animal and try to meet them halfway. For example if they like cuddles, they are welcome, but if they are more distant, I give them the space; if they are playful, we play more; if they are curious, I let them smell food bits, etc.

My hobbies: being in nature (I love all seasons and landscapes), hiking, playing board games (a lovely way to meet and connect to people), meditating, watching art movies...
