Hello!

We are Ella and Tom, a couple from the North of England who share a huge passion for the outdoors and the natural world. We are currently planning a trip through Central and South America and are hoping to get involved in lots of Workaway projects on our journey, keen to immerse ourselves in the local culture and lend a hand where we can. In our spare time, we enjoy seeking out new experiences and meeting like-minded people, particularly those oriented toward the outdoors, music, and the arts. We love to hike and climb and are always happy to get stuck in and work hard!

A bit about us both:
Hey, I'm Ella (22, she/her). I am a caring person who enjoys working collectively and being creative. I have a passion for the outdoors and its conservation. I am often climbing or running and enjoy being artistic through painting and printing projects. I have a degree in Psychology which I hope to put to use in a career in mental health and the outdoors. I have worked part-time since I was 16, meaning I am responsible and hard working. I have experience in Hospitality & Catering (paid), Hostel Work including housekeeping, DIY and gardening (Workaway), Tutoring (paid), Mental Health Work (voluntary) and Leading Ceramics Workshops (voluntary). I would love to experience sustainable living whilst away, along with eco-agriculture and conservation work.

Hey, I’m Tom (23, he/him). I like spending time outdoors and I’m really passionate about conserving nature. At university I have studied marine biology and more recently have completed a masters degree in conservation and ecosystem management, which I think could be really useful helping in eco-agriculture. For work I am a bat surveyor and also work on the safety team at the local sailing club. Because of this I have my Powerboat Licence and RYA level 1 which again could be useful in a nautical setting. Apart from this, my hobbies include climbing, foraging, cooking and hiking. I’d describe myself as laid back but not afraid of a bit of hard work and I particularly enjoy working outdoors.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

-Hospitality: 6 years of paid experience in front of house and catering teams. Confident communicator, able to handle customer needs and adapt to new teams. Barista trained and competent handling food (including food hygiene training). Experienced member of bar staff at various music festivals in the UK. Competent making soft and alcoholic drinks.

- Hostels: A months experience through Workaway, lending a hand in a hostel in the French Alps. Responsibilities included room turn overs, cleaning, gardening and breakfast service.

-Mental Health Volunteer: Spent a year as a mental health volunteer, helping to lead ceramics sessions for adults with mental health difficulties referred to us through their GP. Demonstrated a welcoming and caring approach to working with vulnerable people, providing support with self-awareness and compassion . Also responsible for the setting up and clearing away of the space following each session.

-Maths & English Tutor to children aged 6-16: Experienced working with children as a private tutor to children aged 6-16. I work remotely to teach maths and English curriculum, supporting children through their SATs and GCSEs.
