Hello everyone! 🥰
We are Elena and Giovanni and we are a couple from Italy. We are 22 years old and we both just graduated from a bachelor degree in Economics at the University of Bologna. Economics wasn't something we liked, and it was quite tough for both of us to get through it... But we made it and we are so happy that now we can do what we truly like - for both of us, it is travelling 😊
We are taking a gap year (or more, who knows) and, after a 1 month working experience in the hospitality sector, we are ready to leave and discover the world!
Something about us to know us a little bit better: we are very sociable and extroverted people, who love talking and meeting new people, discovering more about them and their cultures (mostly their food traditions, as we are both very passionate about food and we love trying new dishes and tastes ! We are very active and we love playing any kind of sport, but we also love spending time immersed in nature, walking around or reading. We are also open-minded we adapt easily to different situations. We are both curious and always searching for new experiences to make and new people to meet.

Was könntest du arbeiten?
One of the abilities that characterizes both of us is that of being independent and extremely organized. Since we are very precise (even if Gio is more), we pay attention to details when organizing ourselves and what we need to do. That is certainly helpful when people give us tasks, as we tend to prepare a plan and finish the work on time.
We are also super social and good at entertaining people or make them feel comfortable. We both really like spending time with people, doing all sorts of different things!

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Chat with our students, ...)

My experience in Harim's English school was not super good, and a little bit different from what I expected and how it seems from the profile. Probably this is because I was staying in the school in Casablanca that is not in downtown, but it's quite far from the city center (almost 1 hour by public transport to get to the big mosque and the sea).… read more For me being there was quite difficult because it seemed a bit far from everything (especially nature and the sea) and I felt a little bit stuck there, but most of the people were enjoying it anyways, so maybe it's only me.

Anyways, I was supposed to stay there for one month but I only stayed a week. I think that on the profile it's not so clear the distinction between the three schools, and I feel like people live very different experiences depending on the school they go to, which is assigned a few days before your arrival and doesn't really depend on your choice. Fortunately, if possible, Harim allows volunteers to chance school if they want to.

A negative aspect of the school I was in, for example, is that there's not a washing machine, and we had to wash our stuff in a bucket with water (which is different from what the profile says and quite uncomfortable for me). Also, toilet paper is not included (which is fine since it's written in the profile), but also other essentials are not provided, like soap for washing dishes and detergent for clothes. Sometimes the pans for cooking were gone, making it quite hard to cook for ourselves. Apart from these things, the accommodation was quite nice, with two big rooms with 5 beds each, a kitchen and 3 toilets, and in the same building of the school, so very convenient for us.

The job consisted in a few hours of small conversations (20/30 minutes each) with students to help them learn English. The ones I did were mainly for beginners, so most of the time the conversations were very basics and repetitive. I was hoping I could learn a bit more from the students actually, but most times it was hard to make conversations about "complex" topics because of their English level (which is completely fine, it was different from what I was hoping for). The "lessons" are from Wednesday afternoon to Sunday morning, so there's a lot of free time for travelling around Morocco and I think Casablanca has a strategic position to easily go to different places (I came from Rabat by train and left to Marrakech by train, it was super easy and quite cheap).

Harim was super quick in answering and available for questions or information, but I only saw him once in the school and we never really spoke, so I had a little bit the feeling that he was not extremely interested in knowing the volunteers but we were mainly there for helping in the school. This is fine of course, but different from what I look for in my volunteering experiences and what I experienced before in other places on Workaway (totally personal and different for everyone though).

What I enjoyed the most in my short experience here was the people that I met . They were all super nice and interesting, and we spent a lot of time together chatting and sharing ideas and our experiences, which was really cool!
