Hello,

I'm Deborah (Deb) from Western Australia.

You are never too old for adventures and at 59 I have a zest for life and a yearning
to discover and explore new places and the people who live there.

I love hanging out with people having a good laugh and engaging in conversation. I am outgoing, fun loving, fit and energetic and enjoy the challenges of getting " out of my comfort zone"

My greatest passions are animals (all shapes and sizes, feathers, fur and scales), the great outdoors, hiking, kayaking, horse riding, cooking, gardening, music, movies, cards, board games, live theatre, reading, Pilates, Yoga and travelling.

I spent several months in Canada in 2019 and volunteered through Workaway on a ranch in British Columbia which was an incredible experience.

I would love to work at a wildlife rescue, animal sanctuary or a rural property again surrounded by beautiful animals or in a guest house, hostel or bed and breakfast establishment in the UK, Ireland or Canada.

I am now retired after 24 years service in the Australian Army Catering Corps.

Prior to joining the army I completed a Diploma of Catering and Hotel Management and worked in various hospitality roles iin Australia and the UK including reception , waitressing, housekeeping and kitchen.

Since retiring I have volunteered as an ambulance officer and community transport driver with St Johns Ambulance, wildlife carer at WA WILD LIFE, stable hand at Claremont Equine Therapy Centre, conservation projects and various roles at Ronald McDonald House.

I am also a member of Trusted House Sitters and have enjoyed many wonderful sits with dogs, cats and chickens.

I am a non smoker and enjoy a social glass of wine with dinner or at a local pub listening to music.

I am now free to travel and enjoy the excitement of meeting new people, visiting new places, immersing myself in local communities and experiencing real culture, learning new skills and challenging myself.

I am fully Covid vaccinated and have Right of Abode in the UK allowing me to live and work in the UK.

Bring on new adventures and the magical moments living life to the full.

vom Host (Come and help on a farm ...) für Workawayer ()

We had Deb come to stay for a month and what a great month it was.
She is full of fun, a great help and all of the animals adored her.
Not only did she give 5 ⭐️ care to the animals she also cooked fab meals for us.

Sometime in your lifetime you are drawn to a special place that nourishes your soul, warms your heart and floods you with joy. Well my month here was one of these moments.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Live on a hobby ranch in ...)

This was my first Workaway experience and it was absolutely fantastic. Doug and Pat are the most wonderful, kind and generous people who live on the most incredible ranch I can only describe as paradise. It was just how I imagined Canada to be, lush and green surrounded by undulating hills covered in fir and spruce trees.
I spent 4 amazing weeks… read more with them helping with ranch chores including feeding the horses, keeping the yards clean, carting water, gardening , harvesting vegetables, painting and helping with the preparations for their 25th wedding anniversary celebration. I was so very lucky to meet many of their family and friends who had travelled great distances to share in the joy of the celebration.
Their horses are amazing too, gentle, intelligent and wonderful to ride on some spectacular trail rides. Duke the Border Collie is the friendliest dog who enjoyed a cuddle and a tummy rub any time of the day. Pat is an incredible cook and she served up exceptionally tasty and nutritious meals often incorporating home grown vegetables and hand raised chickens. Her homemade jam from red currants from the garden was delicious. Doug made his signature Korean Ginger Chilli Beef several times and I now have the recipe to take home to Australia.

The accommodation was a very comfortable self contained large caravan with a kitchen, shower and toilet. The bed was comfortable and it’s location was quiet and peaceful and a special treat was waking up to find deer in the field. A great exercise room was available for use in the house including a weights machine, cross trainer and a treadmill.

Doug was a great teacher, he was patient and always gave considered and thorough instructions before tasks were undertaken. I loved working in the garden with Pat, we had great chats and I loved learning all about her wonderful life with Doug and their kids. I enjoyed the many card nights and games of dominoes after dinner. A day trip to Williams Lake with Pat for some retail therapy, stores and lunch was a special treat. The rodeo at Barriere was also awesome and I loved being a cowgirl for a day.

Doug and Pat were amazing hosts who made me feel so welcome and part of the family. Kind hearted, warm and friendly their hospitality made it very hard to leave. I sure hope I get to come back in the future. This was an opportunity of a lifetime. Thank you Doug and Pat xxx
