We will travel Australia from Oct 2024 until Jan 2025. We are looking for nature, adventure, community feeling and new perspectives. We are not shy to get our hands dirty.
Beschreibung
We are a couple living together in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We share a love for being in nature, taking on adventures, learning new skills, gaining new knowledge, sharing existing knowledge, and connecting with fellow human beings. Even though we are usually in our heads for our jobs as chemical engineer (Daan) and healthcare designer (Irene), we don't shy away from getting our hands dirty. At home, we often practice yoga and cook delicious meals together.

Irene finds learning new languages very rewarding, as it teaches her more about the perspective and mindset of the other cultures. She held a voluntary job teaching Dutch to refugees for about a year.

About Irene: In my personal life, I love cooking. I have great sense of taste which helps me experiment in the kitchen. Also, I know my way around a boat. I have spent a lot of time sailing and windsurfing. Moreover, I like to engage in creative projects. In the past, I have done some sewing, sketching, and building furniture. Together with Daan, I built a custom cupboard for a narrow space in our home, which I thought was very fun and rewarding. I chose to study Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology (MSc). In my professional life, I am a service designer in a hospital. I design services and technologies to keep healthcare accessible and affordable for everyone in the Netherlands. I have 3,5+ years of experience in doing user interviews, context research, stakeholder management, service blueprinting, prototyping, testing, and organizing brainstorms. My forte is creating fruitful discussions that lead to creative problem solving. I can get around with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and video editing software as well.
About Daan: Outside of work I like to be hands-on. I can co-design and lead DIY projects or cook you a delicious meal. Overall I'm very quick to learn new things, and have a good attention to detail. I can teach about computer programming, vegetarian cooking, male all-round gymnastics and creative projects. The latter could be digital (photography, videography, graphical design, web design, game design) or hands-on (electronics, DIY projects). I studied fundamental chemistry, chemical engineering and various computer science courses at Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and the Technical University of Denmark. This means I can help out with engineering challenges, especially if it requires some computational calculations. Currently, I work as an engineer and consultant in the energy transition space, helping energy majors around the globe to deploy hydrogen technology in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner to achieve decarbonisation of our global energy system (and prevent further catastrophous global warming...). Was noch ...
Irene: I am into cycling, hiking, rowing, and yoga. Once you get to know me, you'll notice I like chatting about the more fundamental things in life. On the other side, I like to go out, dance, and joke around. I love to be around witty people and to watch comedy shows. Fun fact: when I was 20, I wrote and performed a comedy show with a few others.
Daan: One of my fundamental treats is my curiosity. This has lead me down many rabbit holes that have strengthened my understanding of how physics, chemistry, biology and social structures, economics and technological developments have shaped the world around us. I can't help but philosophise about this very very often. In my private time I enjoy anything that has to do with electronic music (you should give my headphones a listen), computer programming (Google my name), cooking and creative projects. The latter could be digital (photography, videography, graphical design, web design, game design) or hands-on (repairing electronics, DIY projects, restoring furniture, untying knots Irene leaves everywhere). I love to be active, whether it is outside - climbing the nearest tree or big rock, some say I'm more monkey than man - or inside practising gymnastics (olympic allround) or yoga. I love to meet new people and have a good time, celebrate life and explore how others define their life purpose.
