I'm a huge nature lover, and avid film/ art/ literature enthusiast. I majored in Cognitive Science in college as an excuse to make my studies as interdisciplinary as possible. I enjoy coding and am currently doing online courses in order to have the option of becoming a digital nomad. I love solving problems and working on tech projects, but can't be away from nature too long. I love working with my hands, running cross-country, and doing yoga. I spend most of my free time doing just that, as well as writing and reading fiction, painting, drawing, and whatever little crafts comes my way. I love meeting new people and simply keeping busy, such that when I have a moment to relax I can truly appreciate the peace, often with a book or listening to music.

I am additionally a Licensed Private Pilot and Rescue Diver and have both a Greek and American driving license. During the start of Covid I took a gap year from university and worked for a production company in Athens, GR.

I grew up most of my life in a small town in Greece, constantly wandering onto beaches and mountains, and surrounded with animals. I'm very comfortable around flora and fauna and have recently gotten very into mushroom foraging.

Also I love board- and video- games and got to play DnD once and have been hunting for a steady group ever since. I love story-building.

I last used workaway to affordably backpack around Latin America for a year before university. Now that I've graduated I want some more excitement in my life, but hope to stay in each place much longer, and eventually settle. I have no deadlines ahead of me so I'm more than open to stay for as long as a host wants me around. The only steady thing in my life is my partner who currently resides in the UK — but we're used to long-distance. Thank you for reading :) It's always awkward to have to write about oneself.

I am always interested in learning new languages and am a quick immersed learner. I went to university in the USA so haven't been able to practice my Spanish and German in a while but am very quick to get back to fluency. I was a French Teaching assistant in university and have about a year and a half's worth of experience planning and teaching classes once a week as well as one-on-one tutoring. I love learning and teaching simply through exposure/ cultural exchange, but can also lead formal lessons.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am good at painting and sketching and am especially good at intricate and graphic doodle-like designs.
I am a great "fridge-cook", i.e. coming up with good meals with whatever I have on hand (and I absolutely love it). I also love cooking intricate things when I have the resources and time.
I've done some gardening, which I very much enjoy, and would love to improve my skills. I am easy to instruct and I learn quickly.
I love children and am very experienced at babysitting having taken care of my half-siblings (who are now 9 and 7), as well as other toddlers in the neighborhood since I was 10. I additionally took care of a teacher's ten-year-old disabled boy for about two years in the UK, as part of a volunteer program.
I started training in Shotokan Karate while living in Greece, and continued for 12 years. When I briefly lived in the United States (2013/14) I joined a dojo and quickly became a senpai/ teaching assistant, leading kids' classes.
Working at the production company in Greece I was Assistant to the Director for a movie. I then got hired full-time as a Production Assistant for two commercials before being promoted to Second Assistant Director for another six. I had to leave to resume my studies.

A quick summary of prior experience with workaway:

The first was at a restaurant in El Remate, Guatemala, where I was mainly a waitress, but also helped with marketing to tourists, shopping, food prep, washing dishes and cleaning. I also repainted the restaurant and decorated it with my watercolours (as requested.)

Throughout July, August, and September I was a crewmember on call for a catamaran sailing from Florida to California through the Panama Canal, stopping at numerous Central American countries. As a crew member, I was responsible for shopping, food prepping, cooking, cleaning and, simply put, heeding the captain's orders. The catamaran sailed from port to port for one week to ten days every month.

After leaving the boat I worked in Bocas del Toro at a hostel on Solarte Island. It was spontaneous. I was still recovering from a fractured toe and started talking to a volunteer who introduced me to the manager. After a brief conversation I got hired for a month. It was a very different experience to my previous ones, seeing as the hostel was much more popular amongst tourists than my previous more "local" gigs. I bartended, waitressed, helped stock, and did check ins. It was an amazing experience during which I met a lot of people. I am happy to say I got complimented for my social skills with the guests, my languages helped a lot, and the family style dinners required us to know all our guests by name.

From there I essentially kept accepting hostel gigs throughout my travels. I backpacked around Central America, then flew down to Patagonia and hitchhiked/ bussed back up, until I reached Bolivia, then Peru, and ended in Colombia. Some of the longest jobs I worked were six weeks at a very quiet hiker's hostel near Torres del Paine in Chile, and four weeks in Bariloche, Argentina. Since I was on a budget I ended up unfortunately having to avoid most of the more popular hikes, (like Machu Picchu), but that only opened me up to more opportunities (such as river-canyoning with a fellow backpacker and a local teenager for a guide, and zero equipment).

I am easy to get along with and laugh easily. I enjoy socializing and working with people, though I am self-sufficient and perfectly comfortable on my own. I like to consider myself very open-minded and love listening to people, their experiences, backgrounds, passions, and opinions.

I grew up working with my hands, and always feel a sense of achievement and satisfaction from "getting my hands dirty." My manual labor experience comes from growing up in a rustic house with a vast garden. I cleared the fields, cut wood, tended the garden, harvested olives, cooked for family and friends, and did simple general maintenance. Working with animals was especially satisfying having raised and cared for numerous cats, dogs, goats, chickens, and horses.

I am an avid reader and adore movies, as well as painting and sketching. I like to relax by playing piano and guitar, and love music of all genres.

Thanks to a generous scholarship, I attended a boarding school in England for the last two years, and have just completed my final exams this past June. My subjects were English Literature, Physics, Art, and Advanced mathematics. I could tutor in any of these subjects as well as in my languages. I pride myself most on being a quick learner.
