My name's Charles, I've been living in Lille, in the north of France for 29 years. And now i'd like to see what this world is about !
I'm a dynamic and enthusiastic person. I always invest myself 100% in an experience, to take as much as possible from it. I love learning new things.

I'm sportive, i appreciate most kind of sports or physical activities. I also like cinema and series, and love listening to good music.

I like meeting new people, because i truely believe that everybody can bring us something.
Traveling with workaway looks like a perfect opportunity to share about new cultures, ways of life and ways of thinking.

I hope this little resume will be the beginning of a great adventure !

I love playing games : board games, creative games, like treasure hunt and so on, video games aswell (every kind of game).
I have a lot of experience with games. I used to be a member of the student association of my school, in the event pole, for two years.
On top of that, I have worked for 8 months in an association, which put forward social link with games !

I consider games as a funny learning and practising tool, but also as a great way to meet new people and create links.
I'm conviced there's a game for every kind of person, we just need to find it out !

I felt so priviledged to be the very first volunteer at Ana's place !
I've enjoyed the peacefull life in Montenegro near Kolasin, a cute and dynamic ski station.

Charles came and stayed with us in July 2025, and he did a great job, despite the heat (July was quite warm month). Thanks to Charles and two other volunteers from Quebec, we managed to clear a plot, where vegetation had gone crazy in recent year. I spent a bit more than one month here. Such a nice experience ! This place is wonderful.
The people I met are super kind, open-minded and pleasant.

Fergus, Petra and Annie, as I said before leaving, I couldn’t have expected better hosts than you for my first workaway experience. I spent one entire month at your house, but for me it feels like it was only two weeks. On the other side, it’s like we have been knowing each other for years and are old friends.

An incredible chapter I really… read more enjoyed at your place, sharing a lot of great moments with your adorable family and all the volunteers you welcomed. So many wonderful encounters I made thanks to your hospitality. You are always pleasant and open to share some time with the workawayers you receive.

Fergus, I truly enjoyed every moment I spent with you, all the conversations more interesting than the others, all the funny, crazy stories and jokes you tell all day long that I already miss. I learned a lot of things with you.
Petra, you are always ready to help the volunteers. I remember that time you picked Evan and I up on our way back, carrying our packs of beers 😊 You are very interesting, giving some tips about things to do In Czech, and telling cultural anecdotes, historical facts, and about sports activities. I wish we can go hiking, padeling or skiing together next time.
Annie, you’re a very cool girl, smart and determined. I appreciated sharing with you about life and school in Czech. And you are tough opponent in board games ! Can’t wait to turn one barn into a movie theater. You have great projects for your parents’ house ahah !
Thank you once again to the three of you. I’m really looking forward to coming back at your place, meeting you again. There are plenty of things we haven’t done together yet !

To next workawayers : This is definitely a perfect location to live a workaway experience. Fergus is a great cooking chef, you will not miss anything. The accommodations are great, with small kitchens and living rooms, so the volunteers are independent. The house is as big as its potential, there is a lot of things to do and that are waiting to be done. But don’t worry, you will not be working as slaves, as Fergus tells you every day to get some rest and not kill yourself working.
Stranny is a lovely village in the countryside, where you can go for an all-day long hike in beautiful hilly landscapes, alternating between forests and fields. But it’s not too far from bigger cities, with reliable public transports. For sure, you will not get bored in here !

Charles was the perfect volunteer, one of the very best we have hosted - and we have welcomed many into our home! He was exceptionally hard working and a truly friendly and pleasant guy to have around.

There were many tasks that he helped with but the main work involved fitting 50 square metres of flooring in a barn that we are converting into a… read more yoga studio using old pallets that needed restoring. This was a enormous job as first the barn had to be emptied of tonnes of stuff we had dumped there, the earth floor dug and levelled, tonnes of sand put there and the biggest task was to strip the wood off the pallets, sand it with power tools and refit so there was no gaps. Charles worked as a team with one or two others but he was the number one in organising everything. He put in a tremendous amount of effort, worked more hours that he should and even managed to position all the pallets and make final touches to several before he had to depart. He also helped cut up a lot of fire wood with a petrol chain saw, move it to our first floor living area and was always willing to do this in his relaxation hours when we ran short for the fire.

Charles is not only hard working, he is clever, resourceful, can solve problems as they occur and was always willing to help with anything at any time. We had a number of volunteers at the same time and Charles fitted in with team work when needed, always worked long and hard, even when others did not – which says a lot about his determination and work ethic!

On a personal level, Charles was an absolutely delightful person to have around our home. Never once was he miserable or angry, was always smiling, polite and happy to help clear away after meals. He was not fussy about the food provided and was always grateful for what he received. Charles is a board game fanatic, brought some with him, arranged numerous game nights with the other volunteers and had great fun showing our daughter games new to her. Charles has a good sense of humour – which was needed at times!

Future hosts: we are more than happy to thoroughly recommend Charles as a volunteer, he is a very resourceful guy and we think he is capable of tasks even more complicated than we set him. You will not be disappointed!

Charles: we cannot thank you enough for all the help you provided and being such a nice, interesting person to have in our home. You are welcome to visit us at any time in the future – as a friend not as a working volunteer. Good luck with your future travels and ideas about building your life!
