Hello there everyone. May I introduce myself...

I am Carolin, 29 years old, from a rather small village in Austria. I think about myself as a really outgoing, openminded, friendly and polite person and I love meeting new people, travelling the world. (well..probably not the entire world. but I'm working on it ;) reading, riding, skiing and so on.

For 5 years I attended a tourism school, studied in Vienna and did my Bachelor degree in Film - TV and Media Production, have worked in marketing for many years and have never stopped travelling inbetween jobs.

With school, work, private or as an intern I was lucky enough to travel to a variety of countries, such as Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, UK, France, Russia, Turkey, Iceland, Sweden, Australia, Indonesia and Thailand...

In summer 2012 I spent 2 months on a farm in the North of Iceland, close to Ákureyri where I worked as a riding guide and did all kind of farmwork. Days were really long, but I loved every second of it.
I have lots of outdoor experience since I basically grew up in the mountains and I've spent a month in the north of Sweden (Lappland). I did trails with the horses and went on sled-tours with the huskies. That's basically what started it all and I have furthermore spent 2 more summers working for an outdoor activity center in Spain and also took out trail rides in Canada (Kananaskis to be precise).

I activated my Canadian Working Holiday visa in June and will be travelling Canada until May 2024.

I am an ambitious, passionate person and I am willing to work really hard to reach my goals and to realise my dreams.

And probably my favourite aspect about myself - I love animals with all my heart.

I am very motivated and always keen on learning new things. I have worked on farms/ranches multiple times and have experience with horses, sheep, chicken, goats and dogs.
I started horseback riding when I was 13 and the last summer I learned Western Riding. (Loving it! :)
I went to Tourism school so all kinds of hospitality related tasks I really enjoy doing. I am an outgoing person and just love to connect with other people... and sometimes animals even more.
I'm in the process of building a new house with my boyfriend so I wanna say I have some handyman experience.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help out at an Outdoor ...)

I’m having such a hard time putting into words what an incredible time I had here. The second I set foot on the absolutely breathtaking property I felt at home. Even though everyone was tired and exhausted after a long and hard summer season they were all so so so nice and welcomed me with open arms. I got there at the end of August and I think it … read more was the perfect timing. I got to experience the busy times and the not so busy times. Meaning in the beginning there was a routine of taking care of the horses and other small animals, doing 3-4 horse trails a day, go for a cheeky swim, dinner and sleeeep. Over the weeks I’ve actually developed quite a bad habit of just falling asleep. Anywhere and at all times. Let’s just say the sofa and I – bigger love story than Twilight. The photos of me passed out still make me laugh haha
In the beginning I really liked my stay but after a week or so I started absolutely loving it. We had more time to work with the horses, exercise them, help with other things and yes…all the pipe work. Tackling all this work seemed like an impossible thing to do but together we did it and I’m so proud of what we have achieved. Hearing they actually work makes me incredibly happy. I have to say working with Abi and James on the pipes was probably the most frustrating and at the same time funniest experience of my life. Lower, lower!! Palmtree! Sitting at the dinner table afterwards cry -laughing was one of my happiest moments. Not just in Spain but ever. It was hard work but ohhh it was worth it. Over the month I stayed there I made new friends and I love them to pieces. We became a little family and it was a pleasure getting to know them and spending so much time with them.
Taking the quads out for a sunset ride, driving around with the buggy (for the last time before losing the keys haha – sorry James), fixing the quads (well watching or assisting James or Derek), kayaking, shooting, playing Uno on the rainy days, playing in the mud, being part of the Horse and Flamenco Show, dancing like maniacs on stage after the show, Bowling,..it was just unreal. I had such a good time and I’m taking away a lot from this trip. Jenni and Derek are the most hardworking and literally the kindest people you will ever meet. They always go out of their way to make your stay the best it can be and I’m so very grateful I got to experience this. Derek, Jenni and their daughters are like a second family to me now and I miss them every day. Lots of love to you all, thanks again and I can’t wait to get back to my little bubble. See you soon xx

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Share our family life in a ...)

I can’t even put into words how amazing my stay has been. The moment I got there it felt like home and they treated us (me and another workawayer) like family. It felt like a dream and now thinking back and even with looking at the pictures I can’t believe it actually happened. It feels so surreal.

We went out with the doggies several times … read more and I learned how to drive a dogsled! They even let us take them on little sled tours on our own and that they actually trusted us so much was an amazing feeling.

Making trails through the woods with the horses, going cross-country skiing (and yes I actually enjoyed it. Even though I felt like crashing afterwards haha) building a Tipi (no I still can’t remember the Swedish word for it :), fixing and riding the snow mobil, having a sauna break and making snow angels afterwards, visiting a Sami museum, admiring the beautiful sunsets, watching Northern Lights dancing on the night sky, walking around, listening to Sami music, having a talk, playing cards (oh it’s been on haha) or simply watching tv - everything was incredible and we had loads of fun. And I am very proud that I now know how to do the Cup Song!

Our “work” included feeding and watering the horses/dogs and walking their 2 ‘house doggies’ in the morning. But really? It didn’t feel like work at all. On our tours with the huskies we sometimes had tea breaks where we made a little fire, ate Bullar and enjoyed the quiet. Oh and Reindeers crossed our path 2 times!!

Their 19 dogs are just the cutest and I had such a hard time leaving them behind. Unfortunately my suitcase didn’t provide enough space for all of them…not even for my little baby girl Alaska.

Magdalena (probably the best cook on the entire planet and ohhh how much I loved her reindeer and moose dishes) and Tor-Henrik are super friendly, fun, easy-going and just amazing people and I can honestly say that the month I spent there has been the best month of my life. There hasn’t been a second I didn’t love and enjoy it and I am so grateful I got to experience this. I can’t thank these guys enough for welcoming us into their home and letting us be a part of their life. I’ve never been happier in my life and this experience definitely changed my perspective on life.

I love you guys dearly (don’t worry, in a friendly way) and I hope I can come back soon!! And this time I won’t leave as the all-time loser Mrs. Pepper! haha
