Beschreibung

I'm 20 years old, a Year 2 from the University of Hong Kong (HKU), majoring in Chinese Language and Literature and minoring in French. Right now (winter 2026), I'm an exchange student at McGill University in Montréal, studying French and Psychology. I have lived in Montréal since January 2026. I hope to spend the summer in Canada or places nearby, so I can fully immerse myself in new experiences. I hope to try some cool and new things during this special time, so that's why I'm in Workaway right now.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and I speak 3.5 (?) languages:

Cantonese (Traditional Chinese) – my mother tongue
Mandarin (fluent to native) & English (fluent), though my English gets a bit wobbly when I'm tired 😄
Français – je parle un peu ! I've been learning for six months and love practicing

What drives me here:
Genuine human connection. I believe the best travel moments come from small, local experiences, like sitting in a tiny café, chatting with locals, understanding how people live and think beyond tourist spots. Solo traveling is my favorite way to explore because it pushes me to meet people from all backgrounds. Cultural exchange makes me truly happy.

What brings me joy:
Traveling – every new place is a story waiting to happen.
Photography – my biggest passion. I love capturing daily views, light, and little moments. Hiking – a newer love that started in Canada. I enjoy finding local trails and being outdoors.
Teaching – I work as a Cantonese teacher for primary to high school students. I'd be thrilled to teach you Cantonese! It's a lively, unique language full of slang and character. I've also worked at a local high school in Hong Kong teaching Chinese for public exams.
Working with children – I did a six-month internship at HKU's Faculty of Education, running behavioral experiments with children aged 3–12, including those with SEN. I'm comfortable, patient, and genuinely enjoy playing with kids.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I moved to Canada from Hong Kong by myself and don't live in a dormitory, I could handle my daily life independently. I can help with daily grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and other necessary tasks. I'm practical, responsible, and used to managing my own schedule and household.

Teaching & language exchange
I have real teaching experience. I've worked as a teacher for primary to high school students, and I've also taught Chinese for public exams at a local high school in Hong Kong. I can teach Cantonese or Mandarin in a fun, practical way. I also love language exchange as a mutual learning experience.

Photography
My biggest passion. I can take photos of your place, activities, or daily life, whatever you'd like. Happy to share my joy with you.

Cooking
I can cook both a bit of Chinese and Western food. I especially enjoy making udon, noodles, and pasta. I'm not a professional chef, but I'm happy to help prepare simple, tasty meals and learn new recipes along the way. (Yes, I learned many new things during this exchange period!)

Interested in learning new skills
I grew up in Hong Kong, a modern city of skyscrapers, so I don't have real farming or gardening experience—but I'm genuinely curious and eager to learn. And that's also one of my reasons for doing Workaway. If you're willing to teach, I'm a quick and enthusiastic learner.

Was noch ...

I enjoy board games! I'm happy to learn whatever you like to play. I also love listening to music and discovering what locals listen to—I can share some Cantopop if you're curious.

I enjoy casual chatting over tea or coffee—just talking about life, culture, or nothing in particular. I also love exploring cute libraries so much! I was head librarian in high school, and working in a library is probably one of my dream jobs.

I'm tidy and respect personal space and house rules. I adapt quickly—I've lived in Hong Kong (fast-paced, super small spaces) and now Canada (slower, more nature), so I'm flexible. I'm quiet and enjoy staying alone, but I can also be talkative and enjoy spending time with friends.

Random things I'd love to try with you
-Learn a few words of your local language or dialect
-Go stargazing if you're in a rural area (Hong Kong has too much light pollution!)
-Try cooking a dish from your culture together
-Help document your project/life with my camera
