Beschreibung

Hi we are Becky and Laurie from Sheffield, UK. We are currently spending a year travelling (mostly around Asia) and are keen to have lots of new experiences and make lots of new connections along the way.

Becky:

I love to feel part of a community in the places I visit. I spent two years living in a small town in Spain and loved getting involved in community clubs and projects while I was there. I joined the choir, took Zumba classes, volunteered at the local primary school, and joined the local hiking club. I was living with a local family for the whole time and caring for their two young children, so by the end of my two years there I felt really integrated into the local community. I would love to get involved in local life and community in any workaway I am part of. Making connections with people is one of my favourite parts of travelling!

I would also love to find a workaway where I can use my skills as a primary school teacher, so I am very interested in school and education projects. After teaching for three years in the UK, it would be great to experience school life in some different counties and cultures. I also have a masters degree in education and social justice, so I would be especially eager to support with projects that share my passion for social justice and social change. I am passionate about art and music in particular and would be eager to utilise these skills, but am also eager to learn new skills along the way.

As well as using music in my teaching, I play a lot of folk music. At home in the UK I play Irish fiddle music in pubs with other local musicians. It would be fantastic to share my music and to learn about some other traditional music from cultures around the world!

Laurie:

I’m friendly and enthusiastic with a passion for sustainability projects. Before leaving the UK I was working for the local council trying to encourage more children to walk and cycle to school. I therefore have experience working with children.

I have a geography degree and am keen to explore new cultures and meet people around the world. I think workaway could be a good way to do this.

I’m easy going and laid back so am good at helping on different projects and fitting into existing projects.

I like the outdoors and would enjoy helping on gardening and farm projects. Equally though I enjoy working with children and would be happy to help with bits of teaching and cultural exchange.

We are both lovers of the outdoors and, as part of our travels, we are hiking the Lycian way in Turkey and the Annapurna circuit in Nepal. We would be keen to find a workaway that incorporates our active lifestyle and love of the outdoors.
