Beschreibung

We are a couple, Anne Haarløv and Thorkel Hyllested. We live in Roskilde, Denmark.
In 2018 we decided, that we would try to experience the north of Scandinavia in a different way. We had travelled in the aria for several years, but this time we wanted to stay at a spot for a longer period and work with people to get to know them better, than you do, when you travel as a regular tourist.
We used Work Away to find a small town, Murjek, near Jokk Mokk in the north of Sweden close to the Polar Circle. We worked for 6 weeks with the local people, who are taking care of and managing a “Hembygdsgård”. It is a kind of village hall, serving breakfast and lunch and providing accommodation for up to 20 guests. They also arranged cultural events during the summer.
Among other things we worked with: getting rooms ready for the guests, redecorating, upholster chairs, renewing boards and steps of the barn, designing new handwritten posters, helping with arranging cultural events and maintaining the garden.

We had a really good experience, and are now looking for the same opportunity in Scotland.
We are 67 and 69 years old, but fit for fight and ready for meeting new people and for the work needed.
We both speak fairly good English. We can manage German and Swedish. Anne speaks French, and Thorkel speaks fluent Norwegian.
We bring a dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, with us. She is 10 years old, calm and has never been a problem to anybody.

Through the years we have learned many skills around maintaining a house, building, painting, as well as gardening, cooking and cleaning, taking care of children etc. Thorkel has worked for the Roskilde Festival as coordinater of installation-projekts, Leader of a theaterstage among others.
