… read more family, to learn about Hawaiian culture and to care about the dog Paipai and the cat Pizzalani. Living in such a remote place might not be for everyone, but I loved the jungle around the house and the closeness to the ocean. I had wonderful talks with Porter and her neighbors about everything and anything and I learned so much about myself and what I want to achieve in my life one time in the future.
The tasks were easy to do and there was a lot of free time to explore the island (or to work on my master thesis). Porter offered to take me to the city in the mornings when she went to work which was very kind. A big plus is the flexibility when to fulfill the given tasks.

Because we love animals, daily walks with Pai Pai and trying out new commands were a real experience for us and an even stronger deepening of the dog-human relationship.
Every day brought something new — from taking care of pets, helping in the garden, picking fruit and cleaning, to walking the dog and relaxing on the beautiful beach. The work was not difficult at all, we could even choose what suits us best (of course, with respect that we are entering someone's home and becoming part of the family for a while). The highlight of the entire stay was watching an active volcano - an experience that once again reminded us the power of nature. We even celebrated New Year's Eve together. We were connected by conversations about health, psychology, parenting and life in general. We felt welcome, part of a family, and at the same time independent.
This stay was not only about helping, but also about growing, sharing and true connection. Mahalo for this life experience - it will definitely remain in our hearts forever. 🙏🏻 🌺

The big island was a paradise for us, not only it has beautiful beaches, sunsets and sunrises, but the people there have an incredible energy. They are so relaxed, kind and cool all the time. There were many things I learnt here as a person who wants to have a family in a similar environment in future. The area is very beautiful with lively jungle where I enjoyed my daily dreamy walk. The house is just 5 min walk away from a sandy beach and also a splendid cliff. I even had some luck to see some whales from this beach. They also took me to places such as natural hot pond, volcano, town of Hilo, local events and markets etc (I’m sure I’m missing something here as they took me to many places). I was lucky with sunny weather most of the days but rainy days were as enjoyable in such a beautiful environment.
