Hi All, I am Simar from Patiala, we enjoy meeting people from the corners of the world and arrange their stay at our orchard in the hills and rural farm in Punjab where the volunteers can spend their time in various social programs being run for rural development, making them enjoy the feel of Real Rural India, helping them in understanding the various traditions, languages, festivals, folk dances and songs.
I believe, that there is no better way to discover a country and people but to share their everyday routine, be a part of their home and adopt their lifestyle.
Family: Belong to a family of farmers involved in agriculture and horticulture and spend our free time with the various NGO's being run by us.
As an organisation, some of these projects were started by my family in 1967 and since then we have come a long way and our experience has shown us the significance of volunteer tourism for the success of our social and charitable projects. We enjoy the help and support of friends and acquaintances from all over the world who visit us regularly and have associated themselves with our cherished projects.

We aim to find ways to improve the daily life and living conditions of the rural residents with their participation itself along with valuable inputs from the volunteers. To help the volunteer understand the culture, language and other local issues, a dedicated team of program officers shall be available to bridge the gap between the local residents and volunteers.
Meet the requirements/challenges of rural India by educating them about disposal of waste in a proper manner, plantation of trees in villages, teaching in the village school, interacting with the women group of the village, helping them promote the local handicrafts made by them and learning local farm/orchard practices.
Volunteering at the local school is also a part of the program to help rural students in their education and confidence building. Interaction with the volunteers instills confidence amongst the students besides serving as a window beyond the village boundary.
Teaching basic English, mathematics, arts and crafts and games.

The program is run in a picturesque small village called Talia at a height of about 6000 feet, in the remote district of Sirmour. Sirmour is the most south-eastern district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is largely mountainous and rural, with 90% of its population living in villages and is in the list of 250 most backward districts of India. Agriculture is the backbone of economy here
The volunteers stay in a small warm cottage in an orchard away from the hustle bustle of a town. The cottage was built in 1972 and still has the simple old village architecture. You will find yourself nestled in nature’s lap, with no one to intrude.
Here you get the chance to be a part of the village itself, with thick forest mountains in the background, natural beauty, unexplored valleys, mountain walks and the seasonal peach/plum orchard. The cottage is situated in an ideal surrounding to invigorate and refresh one’s soul. Beautiful village homes built in the local architecture, warm and friendly atmosphere, this home-stay promises to create an experience that you will cherish forever.
Over the past few years we have had a few volunteers coming to spend time at the various NGO's being run by us. The NGO's we are running are in the field of Rurual Development, Providing special education to Deaf and Blind children, Old Age/Retirement Home, Lepers Home, Health services to the poor and needy.
Since the idea of Volunteerism is really famous all around the world now so we have made a team to manage and look after the volunteers in a more professional way.
The team consists of a group of like minded friends and family members who joined hands in 1967 and have been associated with social service for over three generations. We are all professionally qualified and well traveled and many of our friends from around the world have spent many a vacation with us taking back cherish able memories of the time well spent and well enjoyed.
All the volunteers who have spent time with us are also now a part of our team, providing feedbacks and opinions and helping us improve the various volunteering programs.
The volunteers who visit us, stay at our home and become a part of our family, sharing their experiences and learning about our way of living. They learn our way of living, languages, traditions, festivals, weddings, food and cooking, though once in a while they also help us in teaching their favourite dish and cooking for us. We believe that with the volunteers staying with us it is a learning experience for not only the volunteer but our family as well. Plus it gives a platform where more and more information is shared about our NGO's around the world.
Most of these volunteering programs are from 8AM to 2PM and from Monday to Friday, in the free time the volunteers get the opportunity to learn Indian languages, folk dances, Indian cooking lessons and Yoga. During the weekends the volunteers can plan on visiting nearby areas or maybe a trek can be planned and organised for them.
I can confirm that I am not charging any volunteer who
comes to volunteer in the volunteer program mentioned on Workaway.
