We started this as an end-of-the-road co-working & co-living space up the mountainside from the Himalayan town of Manali, working to welcome travelers and digital nomads to their home away from home, and encourage everyone to re-invest their time and energy into the practices and relationships that give lift them up. We've opened our place to encourage open expression, a traveler's community, and a place where everyone can feel welcome to share, relax and explore. We hope to feel like a home and family for you too.

At the moment, we are looking for volunteers who have a specific, teachable skillset that can translate into some sort of guest experience or specific project for our space. More on that below.

Apart from the travelers' community you will become a part of during your time with us, our remote location also comes with a unique view into Himalayan life.

Our isolated location from town really gives you an up-close look at what rural life is like here. A quick walk through our village will show you the traditional handlooms on almost every front porch that the women still use to make shawls, and the occasional cow where all of our neighbors (including us) get their fresh milk from everyday. We like to hike, slackline and cycle a lot, so there are plenty of chances to explore the higher altitudes of the valley. Honestly our primary aim here is to provide anyone who visits our place the opportunity to experience a very different, more open & laid-back way of life in the rural Himalayas.

The community here will always have an abundance of ideas, adventures, friendship & much more to share with you, so long as you come ready to jump in!

We are really trying to focus on building a sense of community at our hostel, and part of that includes hosting Workawayers who can lead workshops and experiences where everyone in-house can learn something new or connect with others staying here.

** Please note that at the moment, we are only looking for volunteers who have a specific, teachable skillset that can translate into some sort of guest experience or specific project for our space. We are not currently considering volunteer applications for general help or non-specific projects. For example, if you're interested in leading guided hikes, we would expect you to have previous professional experience doing so, some relevant training, naturalist guiding experience, etc. Not just that you enjoy hiking.**

We'll list some of our ideas below, but if something else comes to your mind - we'd love to hear it!

Our ideas for potential workshops/projects/experiences are:

Day-Hike Leader: Our goal is to begin hosting daily hikes to some of our favorite places around Manali (there are about a million trails that start from our backyard). If you have previous wilderness training/guiding experience of some sort, we're looking for some enthusiastic guides who can lead our guests on these little adventures after we show you the routes and make sure you're comfortable.

Muralists/Artists: We have a whole hostel (that's a lot of walls) that is waiting for your paintbrush! Our vision is to have a couple nature-themed murals portraying some of India's most beautiful trekking routes around the place. Other walls, we are completely open to your suggestions/inspiration! We will want to see previous examples of murals you have painted.

Experiential Learning & Teachable Workshops: Are you a certified yoga instructor? Can you lead a meditation class? Do you know how to make/do something unique that is teachable in a hostel setting (slack lining, upcycling, origami - you name it)? Like we mentioned, we really want to start hosting workshops for our guests, and we'd love to have you come lead one, whatever that may be! Let us know what you'd can teach!

Developers: We are looking to build our own booking and channel manager platform to help us manage our reservations. If this is something you'd be able to do - let us know!

House Projects: This one is a bit open-ended, but if there is something you think we can add to the place that you have experience in (be that something fun like building a swingset, implementing some environmentally sustainable initiatives, etc.) please suggest your idea to us.

We’ve intentionally gone up the valley away from the main town. We're situated in our own little valley with no other buildings around, and we like it that way! It's quiet where we live, with mostly just locals passing by with their goat & cow herds in the summer. We also don't have a lot of rooms here, which makes it easier for all of us to get to know each other. Our favorite things to do usually involve the outdoors - so we're usually either hiking, cycling, or slacklining when we have some free time.

This place should feel home to you while you stay here - just like it does for us. Our helpers get clean, cozy bunk beds, and we provide (depending on what projects you're involved with) the same 3 home-cooked meals a day that we serve to our guests (please note that we cannot accommodate special dietary needs - we generally have a vegetarian option available during mealtimes, but additional dietary constraints will be entirely your responsibility to manage). You'll also have towels, linens, soap, laundry machine access, WiFi, community kitchen access, and a community to call home.

Our space has fun little common spaces that are all yours - cozy TV lounge, upstairs library loft & boardgames, backyard hammock & slackline - our home is yours now.

Our volunteers & guests (and us) oftentimes go out on adventures together. We want to emphasize that we're not looking for a volunteer-host relationship where your interaction with us ends when your help is done. We want you to feel part of the fabric here - to connect with us, guests who are here at the time, and contribute to the atmosphere with your uniqueness!

We are a laid-back place, and we started our little mountainside hostel to be a place that can foster new ways of thought, friendships, and deepen the idea of what it means to live life by your own design.

With that though, we want potential Workawayers to understand that our location does come with several things that you need to be aware of before coming. Our remote location means sometimes electricity and water inconsistencies can occur, especially in the winter. We do our best to counter these events with solar water heaters as well as geysers, an inverter and generator, but we are in the rural Himalayas at the end of the day! Winters are very cold (we have heaters), but if you love the snow - we get a ton of it, and there are few sights more spectacular in this country than these mountains after a fresh snow.

Also to note - we have a puppy named Bear, he's very friendly, but very energetic and loves to play - so make sure you're comfortable with animals if you're staying with us! He recently became paralyzed in the hind legs, but seems to have made a recovery - so occasionally we may ask you to help with him if our hands are full!

We have dedicated workstation built against all the windows of our cafe floor, so you can answer emails with a true Himalayan view (and a hot cappuccino from our cafe). Our wifi is backed by an enterprise-grade leased line with speeds up to 25 mbps and a 98% uptime guarantee. On most days, we have 10-20 guests and ourselves working various remote jobs on our network. In terms of networks, Airtel & Jio are very reliable, however we recommend anyone with Vodafone to get another SIM, as that network is not reliable in this area of the valley.
