Because of the weather we mostly worked in the garden - it was quite hot but Mathilde always made sure we could be in the shade, and cool down in the pool when we needed! I especially appreciated that Mathilde worked alongside me, so there was lots of time to talk and practice my French. I was only there for 5 days but I wish I’d had longer to explore this beautiful region, with so many beautiful places to walk and visit (I recommend Saint Macaire, a medieval village nearby). Hay que quitar malas hierbas, cortar leña, reformar mesas... aunque lo mejor son los maravillosos paseos que puedes hacer adentrandote en el bosque, junto con Jesbull, la perrita que tienen🤍. La habitación que disponen para los workaway es una pasada y la comida que comen, todo es producto local.

I'm very happy with Vivienne stay at home: she helped me a lot, inside and oustide, even if, unfortunatly the weather was very dry and it was difficult to gardenning, so ... we cleaned the house. Vivienne helped me to babysit the girls when I wasn't at home, and with animals too, and was a friend for our dog too, walking every days with her.

I spent an incredible 5 weeks with the family of Mathilde and Michel. I felt welcomed immediately as a member of the family. The work was fair and consisted mainly of helping Mathilde during the mornings in the house, the guesthouse, and the garden. Mathilde was almost always working with me and talking with me, which allowed me to learn many
… read more things about the French language, culture, and history. She knows how to communicate with someone who is new to the language, and she really helped me to improve my French. I also assisted with preparing meals, babysitting the younger children, and doing activities (tennis, ping pong, riding bicycles, playing games, swimming, etc.) with the children after school and on the weekends, when they were not busy doing their own things. The three children are very talented and intelligent, and spending time with them was very rewarding. My bedroom was comfortable and spacious, and I enjoyed the food very much. I was there during the peak of the fall harvest, and we had many wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden (figs, plums, apples, tomatoes, zucchini, onions, and more) and other organic vegetables from local producers. We even gathered mushrooms from the forest around their home. The meals were mostly vegetarian, with meat served from time-to-time. A highlight of my time with the family was experiencing the harvesting of the grapes at the winery and the first stages of turning the grapes into wine. Michel and his brothers were very nice to explain the process, let me ride on the machine that harvests the grapes, and answer all of my questions. I also appreciated Michel's mother who was so generous to include me in the gatherings of the extended family at the winery. During my days off, Mathilde was very kind to help me make arrangements to visit Bordeaux, the Atlantic coast, and several of the surrounding villages and historical sights. If you are seeking a truly authentic cultural experience in the French countryside, I highly recommend this Workaway. The village where they live is very small and has no public transportation, stores, or bars/cafes...so the experience is to immerse yourself into the daily activities of this nice family (and extended family and friends) and to learn from and enjoy their way of living. … read more house or guesthouse, garden, or cooked together. Don't be afraid of that you don't know how to do, because Mathilde is the best teacher that i know! She taught me everything and shared with me her experience of cooking, house cleaning, wine, natural life, history, and of course the French!
After the work(usually in the morning), she wants me to be free and visit this lovely village. Mathilde also took me to visit other special village and explained the history to me. Sometimes, i went to the vineyard and Michael also taught me how to care the vine. All of the children were so smart and friendly to me. It's too much to write down everything that i got. You need to come and experience it yourself! It was my first time of workaway, and i loved it very much =)
Thanks Michel for teaching me a lot about the wine. He is a sweet father and husband. He cares about everyone and usually gave me the help before i asked. Thanks Olympe, the little lovely girl, for spending a lot of time walking and playing with me. She is also a good photographer and journalist! Thanks Darius for showing me how to ride Unicycles, and the way of capturing the birds in the forest. He is a very smart boy, and also likes music. I cant forget the night he danced with Mathilde with the french classic song. Thanks Clovis for giving me a ride in the vineyard! He is a really sporty boy who also likes the speed and high! … read more she taught me many new things in the garden, and she showed me another way of thinking when living life in the countryside. Her daughter Olympe was great too. I played with her, helped her with the school homework and spoke English with her (although sometimes I had to persuade her:)). Her French pronunciation was perfect, so I also had a good teacher of French language. Darius, her brother, also taught me some French grammar. He is an excellent child when he is passionate about something – he does the maximum for it. Clovis is the oldest child who is very responsible, studies hard and talks like an adult, so it was enriching to speak with him about many things that I was interested in. And Michel, papa, he is a lovely person too, and after long days at work, he likes to have a little bit of fun, play some games and read some books with his children during the evenings :). The work in the family was not difficult. When it rained, we were doing some cleaning in the house or the guesthouse. Or Mathilde taught me how to make a hand-made soap or how to cook some traditional French dishes. When the weather was nice, we worked in the garden, looked after the ponies and chickens, or picked some wild lettuce for our lunch :) . It was an excellent experience for me to stay in the family and I recommend it to everyone. Moreover, the village where the family lives is beautiful. I made some walking tours and bike tours to the neighbouring villages. I believe that everyone will like the family as much as I did :).
