It was such pleasure to have had Heike and Kees in our home!
Both are really warmhearted persons which we felt very comfortable with. They had worked mainly together with our builder Antonio which was a great team. They enjoyed eachothers company and had a great working vibe. All of them really motivated, always puntual. It was rather hard to stop

Heike and Kees are very easy to satisfy and independent. They could also cook and clean for themselves when needed . They enjoyed their walks in the afternoons.

We were able to enjoy the hospitality and the warm personal attention and interest of Julia and Juan for three weeks. After the warm welcome we immediately felt at home in the cozy bedroom and the simple and cozy temporary kitchen.

Lily and Gellert spent 3 weeks with us and it was a true pleasure having them here! They not just worked wonderfully, it was also personally a joy to have them around. I felt that Lily and Gellert are truely happy with eachother and that they have just enjoyed spending time by themselves in our area. They are having the great intention of eating

There wasn't any need to ask them to participate also in our shared household for those weeks as they just took a brush or cleaned dishes when it was needed.
I highly recommend Lily and Gellert as I ve got to know them as such warm hearted, clever, reliable and independent people who were always in time and throughout motivated at work...so easy and pleasant to have.
They helped us a lot around the house, sorting firewood, DIY projects and in cleaning up our garden after heavy rains.

… read more are such a sweet couple pretty much in love :) It was communicated ahead that we need very independent and matured people here at the moment as we weren't able to supervise to much. They managed everything perfectly themselves. Zsuzsi and Marci managed wonderful all tasks and furthermore were able to cook for themselves and they enjoyed their walks. I was privileged to got offered one or the other meals and I have to say they are amazing chefs!!!

I had a fantastic 2-week stay with Julia and Juan in December 2023. I was welcomed very warmly and made to feel at home right away. I really enjoyed the work: giving the pine roof beams a new lease of life with the professional sanding machine. … read more needed and really put my mind at ease. Julia was also very clear about other jobs that I could do in case I fancied a change, but I was more than happy to keep on going and sometimes had to stop myself from working on my days off! Working with wood is a huge pleasure for me.
I felt so well looked after and had a great time celebrating Juan’s birthday, having drinks in the village bars, playing darts, enjoying relaxed and sunny breakfasts sitting on the kitchen steps, and just lying in the hammock and listening to the birds. I loved all the animals, especially Scotty and Siri the border collies - so loving, energetic and free-spirited! I was also lucky enough to hang out with some baby goats at Juan’s nearby farm which was an absolute joy.

Staying 3 weeks with Juan and Julia was my first Workaway experience at all, but in the time after I left I realised even more how great hosts both are. I really enjoyed going for a walk with the 3 dogs to explore the surroundings, but also joining when Juan and Julia decided to go to one of the bars in the village. Even though it's a small
… read more village where everybody knows each other, there are a lot of things to do. In terms of work when I went there I knew that it is construction work, but it wasn't too hard. You notice that they really care that you are happy while staying with them and additionally both have excellent cooking skills.

The construction work was heavy, but we had a good atmosphere and my coworkers were always in the mode to make a joke. I was able to improve my Spanish and learnt a lot about building as well.

We spent almost two weeks in Los Romanes with Juan and Julia and what an experience it was! It was my first workaway experience which definitely required some courage to eventually sign up for. But Julia with Juan made sure we enjoyed our time and made the most out of the experience.

… read more about the situation at their property and also in Spain, as the house was under construction, so you shouldn't expect the same comfort as you would have at home. And she warned that Spain was really hot during the time we were to come, which was important as the work was outdoors. This helped us prepare and set the right expectations. Nonetheless, we had everything we needed and our room was amazing, with a beautiful view of the hills and the legendary Comares! :D Still sad about the kitchen, I loved the one we had once we arrived, but can't wait to see the new one!
I also must mention the kindness of Julia and Juan, Julia always made sure we were happy and had enough of what we needed. And Juan was very patient when he had to teach us something on the construction site. Also Julia's food! OMG, it's worth visiting them only for the food! She cooked some delicious pasta and often made an amazing dish out of nothing :D so impressive.
It's difficult to put everything in words, the cultural experience we got, the bus trip with the Los Romanes community to the beach, the Flamenco, the annual Feria (good luck organising it, Julia), the people we met, the dogs, the views, the property... Not sure what can match this experience.

Specially Ross always tried to speak Spanish with our builders and also practiced in the afternoons. Ross and Dee came in times of big changes here. While they were here they helped to empty our house, moved our kitchen in a different building and helped to get off our roof. It was a quiet dirty work and messy times here but we are so greatful that they came, helped and managed so well with however it was here day by day. I had a very pleasant stay in "Lo Romane" with Julia and Juan. I stayed at their place for almost a month.
My tasks were mostly in construction of their house and i hope it really helped them getting forward with constructing of their home. I also had the opportunity to meet and help out a bit with the animals on the farm of Juan. For me
… read more personally to experience the differences in building techniques (and climate) between Finnland and Andalucia.
I also had the opportunity to participate in events with the locals and that i found very interesting.
The house was a building site but everything you needed was found and Julia kept the house amazingly clean and tidy, it really felt like a home. My room was really nice with a stunning view of a slope with olive trees.
Both Julia and Juan are good chefs and the food could compete with any restaurant.
Los Romanes has a lot of roads and paths you kan walk on and the views are stunning, but be aware of that the difference in altitude requires a bit of physical condition.
They helped me to improve my Spanish witch was important to me, thank you.

John is incredibly fit and independent. He went for walks every day, often more than 20 km. I have just competed a very enjoyable 4 week assignment with Julia and Juan. They a very friendly and hospitable couple who exemplify the true spirit of Workaway. My work mainly involved assisting with their home extension - keeping the builders supplied with concrete and bricks.
During their vacation week I took care of their 2 lovely dogs and their hens and goat as well as digging a vegetable plot.
This has been an unforgettable experience and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to share their life for a month.
I hope can repeat it in the future.

I also had a great time on my time off seeing the local village. Julia and Juan are part of a great community in Los Romanes and it was a pleasure to meet their friends. The village and scenary is beautiful, hopefully some day I will return.

Danny spent the last 2 weeks with us and we are very happy and pleased he was here.
He undertook the difficult task of removing the plaster of the stonewalls and cleaning the gaps.

On top we felt super comfortable with him throughout!!! Danny is so super balanced, happy and easy to satisfy. A guitar and homemadefries will do for him :D...

… read more music!) The accommodation is amazing and the finca has such a beautiful, calm energy perfect for the downtime. I got to explore the town and surrounds by bike, and Julia and Juan were super generous with their time, taking me to the local jam session and mountain walks.
