Alika is incredibly creative, calm, and sweet. She loved talking about her books, showing me tricks on the rope, dressing up as superheroes, and creating and solving missions together . Her creativity is truly impressive. Aelis is full of energy and affection. She loved to play doctor with me (only with her as the patient!;) ), we danced to Gabby’s Dollhouse songs (which will forever be stuck in my head), and she adored my attention and cuddling.
They live in a beautiful house surrounded by vineyards and forest, perfect for long, and peaceful nature walks. Sitges, just 20 minutes away, is a charming beach town, and Barcelona, that turned out to be one of my favorite cities, was worth the effort every time. (it took me around 1.5 hours to get there).
My responsibilities during the stay were exactly as described in their profile and easy to manage.

On top of that, Hannah helped drive the kids to school, cooked some delicious meals, and handled babysitting when needed, all with a calm and dependable attitude that made us feel completely at ease.

As my first Workaway experience, this set the bar very high! I stayed 2 months with Avril, Alex, Alika, and Aelis and what a blessing it was. I got to experience what Spanish life was like in a family setting along with some French culture as well (bonus:) Alex and Avril were super communicative, kind, generous, and made me feel like part of the
… read more family. I was included in everything but also had the freedom to have my own space if needed. The bedroom and bathroom were extremely spacious and comfortable. The house and area is absolutely breathtaking and peaceful. My responsibilities were as described in the profile. I took the girls to school some days, helped with DIY projects, cooked once a week, and then had a specific English activity once a week. The girls are fun to be around and are super creative and loving. Driving in Spain was pretty easy to navigate and Avril and Alex were generous to allow me the freedom to use the car to explore when time allowed. … read more morning, a couple of times I cooked, helped with the flowers and one evening I remained alone with the daughters . So I had a lot of free time to walk along the many pathways in the country or to visit the villages around.
Alika and Aelis are really lovely girls and I spent nice moments with them!
They are engaged great part of the day with various activities once out of school.
As all the children of course they too have problematic moments but are very very rare. For the rest I had a wonderful relationship with them and they helped me a lot to get confident in the family life and to make practise of languages ( at home are currently spoken french, spanish, english).
The house and the enviroment are really beautiful; in the very nature, surrounded by wineyards and hills. No noises or confusion.
They offered me to use their car to go to visit the surroundings but I prefered to spend time to walk.
About the cars, they have two automatic ones; for me it was the first time I drove them, I own a manual one, but it was very very simple. What I found difficult was to manage the car computer that is necessary to reach either the school or other places but it was because I'm not used to the ones incorporated in the cars so at the end I used my mobile phone.
From there it is possible to reach Barcellona by trein in about 1 hour or the sea . And there is also a bus with a stop very close to the house( not on Sundays) to get other places.
