The time with Raquel and her family was really special. It was my first work away experience and I must say it was perfect. The whole family super heart warming, welcoming and included me in their daily life. I went to family parties and was invited to everything they did. I had my own room but was welcome to be together with them at any times. I

David doesn’t speak English which was really good for me, since I visited a language class. I practiced with him. I wish I could have stayed longer than 4 weeks. I will definitely come back!

My stay with Raquel, David, Abraham, Carmen and Abril will be an experience that I will not forget! I stayed just over 3 weeks with the family, but a further 2 weeks with their best friends, Belinda and Alberto. I spoke English with Raquel but Spanish with David and the kids. However, all of the kids were very good at picking up English phrases

This family and extended family are undoubtedly very special, and they taught me so much about the Spanish culture. I was welcomed by the extended family as one of their own, as the tiny, crazy children climbed on my back and stole my phone to play games! I looked after Abraham, Carmen and Abril in the mornings and early afternoons until Raquel returned from work. We watched scary movies, cooked pancakes and (much to their dismay) did homework every morning. Apart from the occasional mishap, which would happen with any child that had to do homework during summer, we all got on very well. Abraham's constant singing and dancing kept us all amused!
I got weekends and evenings off and I attended a Spanish course in the city on Monday and Wednesday nights, which helped massively with my Spanish. At the weekends I had the option of doing my own thing with my friends or going with the family on trips to the tranquil mountain house or the beautiful beaches, which was just ideal.
One thing that I noticed at the beginning of my time with the family was that the aupairs change quite regularly. From previous experience in my own family, I know that my siblings and I got along much better with the aupairs when they stayed for longer. Constantly changing aupairs makes it difficult for the children as they get attached but must then quickly move on. For this reason I found that it took a good few days for the kids to become comfortable with me. This would be my only criticism to my time spent in Barcelona :).
All in all I would like to thank you, David, Raquel, and the kids for the super time I spent with you and for welcoming me into your home. I hope to see you again in the near future!

My stay with Raquel, David, Abraham, Carmen and Abril will be an experience I will never forget; and will make it very difficult for me to find the next Workaway family now that I have had such an amazing experience with them!
As soon as I arrived, I felt very welcome into their family and home. They introduced me to all of their BIG extended
… read more family and friends and I was included in everything they did, from weekly activities and weekend trips to other towns. I stayed with them for about 6 weeks in July 2014. They were very accommodating to allow me to figure out good times where I could take a few long weekends to travel, when Raquel was away for work.
In the beginning, it was a little challenging to communicate with everyone (except Raquel), but Google Translate was one of my good friends and we got through it ;) Playing games with the kids was a fun way to interact with them, where my poor Spanish didn't matter as much. As the weeks went by, my comprehension of Spanish improved immensely. I was quite happy with my progress in the short time, so I have the family to thank for that.
The main purpose when you're there is to basically hang out with the family and whenever Raquel is around, to speak and help her improve her English. I also picked up the kids from summer school/soccer camp in the afternoons and spent a few hours with them to have lunch and hang out until Raquel and David arrived home.
Thank you for such a great experience and I hope to see you in the near future. <3

I sincerely like to thank Raquel and David for taking me in for an amazing 2 weeks. Being my first workaway, i was really out of my element being in a country with a language that i can't speak a word of, traveling alone for the first time and really taking a leap of faith. I was scared but they were such a loving family, it was so comfortable
… read more with everyone and I settled in fairly easily. :)
I had get to babysit the 3 lovable children on weekday evenings after school, spend time with them during their after school activities such as music class or just playing in the park. I spent amazing weekends with the family and extended families, visiting the sights and spending the evenings at Raquel's mother's house with all her siblings, the in-laws, nieces, nephews.
I have met so many fantastic people, their friends and family, relatives, neighbors, teachers and people from all walks of life. Raquel is the only one amongst most people (apart from some of her friends) who can speak English and she has taught me so much of the Spanish culture, traditions, education system, city life, food and everything one can learn about Barcelona and the Catalan culture.
I get the mornings and early afternoons to myself to visit the city, museums and galleries. Raquel is so generous, she really took great care of me (i was ill a couple of days), i get a couple of days off to enjoy the wonderful Barcelona city, which i really get to love.
Abraham is so keen in learning Mandarin and English, I love teaching him. Carmen and Abril are the cutest girls, they laugh so much and are very curious. Carmen is great with language and sounds so she could pick up some English terms really well.
It was truly an amazing experience and anyone who gets to stay with Raquel and David's family, is a very very lucky workawayer. I LOVE every bit of my time there. I learnt so much.
Take care Raquel, David, Abraham, Carmen and Abril. I MISS YOU ALREADY. MANY KISSES! Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
