Beschreibung
We are an upcycling community consisting of Kim, Torsten, Marvin, Martin, Niklas, Linda, Pieter (9 years old), and Lotta (6 years old). We live in Duisburg, on the border of the Ruhr area. The Rhine River, surrounded by greenery, is 1 km away, and the small city center is only a 300-meter walk away. We enjoy community living and welcome others to contribute their ideas and influence. Become part of our family.
Cultural exchange is one of our reasons for joining Workaway. We all love to travel, meet new people, and discover new cultures. As a Workawayer, you are not only a helping hand, but also a gateway to another country. We look forward to spending time with you, going to your local pub, exploring Duisburg and the neighboring cities together, and more.
We bought the house with garden 10 years ago. We recently bought the house next door. Our main activities are renovation, creative decorating, interior design, and gardening. It is important to us to integrate our helpers, like you, into our community. In the 300 m² house, you will have your own room and access to our comfortable kitchen, a living room, and a shared bathroom. You may share your room with another Workawayer. We want you to be part of our community, which is shared beyond working on the projects. In the evenings, we cook and eat together. Here you can learn about another great project where we rescue food. We usually work together and support each other.

The Ruhr region is an interesting mix of beautiful wild spaces of forests, rivers and lakes with also metropolitan city culture and industry in Duisburg, and a melting pot of cultures with large Turkish, Italian, Russian and Spanish communities. Its multicultural 5 million inhabitants makes for a very colourful and diverse experience with many unique cultural activities on offer.
In the region you can discover exotic restaurants, cultural spaces, markets such as the middle age market and many festivals such as Carnival, Park to Shine, CSD and Japanese day.

Our Current Project: Turning a House into a Home!
About the project We are currently in the middle of an exciting renovation project! We’ve recently taken on a new house and are working hard to restore and improve it. Because our hands are full with tools and building materials, we are looking for a friendly Workawayer to help us keep our daily lives organized and running smoothly.
The Help We Need Rather than heavy construction (unless you have those skills and want to help!), our main priority is keeping our living space clean and comfortable. Your help would mainly involve:
General House Chores: Keeping the common areas tidy and organized.
Cleaning: Helping with the routine cleaning that often gets neglected during a renovation.
Cooking: Occasionally preparing a shared meal or helping with food prep.
Small Odd Jobs: Light gardening or minor tasks around the house as they pop up.
The Schedule & Flow Our renovation schedule is quite specific, and we’d love for you to be part of the team:
Fridays: One of us is dedicated to working on the new house all day.
Saturdays: This is our big "team day" where we all work together on the renovation.
Note on your free time: While Saturdays are a work day for us, we would love for you to join us at the new house to help out! In exchange, you are welcome to pick any other day of the week as your day off. We are very flexible and want to make sure you have plenty of time to explore the area or relax.

Unterkunft
The house is over 100 years old, and we've tried to preserve as much of its original character as possible. You'll have your own room . We all share the kitchen, bathroom, living room, sauna, garden with hot tub, and laundry room. For more information, please contact us. We're participating in a large food-sharing project and saving all our food from large corporations. We'd be happy to explain more about this project and show you around. We always have plenty of food in the house that you're welcome to help yourself to. We love eating and cooking together.

Duisburg lies in a great position to take excursions to other cities. We are situated just 1 hour from Cologne, and 4 hours bus ride to Paris and Amsterdam. We also have a bicycle you can ride and may be able to take you out for local trips in our car when we have time.
